The Senior Data Engineer is a lead data engineer within the Data Platform Engineering team and will play a key role in enabling our data-driven strategy. The Senior Data Engineer, will work closely with Product, Architecture, Analysts, Data Scientists, and Software Engineers as you help define our data development roadmap. The senior data engineer will be handling the design and construction of scalable data management systems, ensuring that all data systems meet company requirements, and also researching new uses for data acquisition. These systems will provide the foundation which all other data analysis and integration are built. The Senior Data Engineer will be pioneering Data Engineering leader and be empowered to create a strong community of Data Engineers. The Data Engineer will have strong data infrastructure and data architecture skills, a proven track record of leading and scaling data teams, strong operational skills to drive efficiency and speed, strong project leadership, and a strong vision for how data engineering can proactively create positive impact.

This role is remote in the Czech Republic. We are only able to accept applications for those based in the Czech Republic or have sponsorship to live and work in the Czech Republic.


Responsibilities: 

  • Processing, cleansing, transforming, and verifying the integrity of data.
  • Design, develop and help maintain data infrastructure to extract, transform, and load data (ETL & ELT) from various data files, APIs, and databases, and to make them accessible to various client-facing applications as well as internal tools.
  • Develop, and operate highly scalable data pipelines and infrastructure that enables rich security, eventing, and analytics use cases.
  • Automate manual processes and optimize data delivery.
  • Contribute to ensuring security, privacy & compliance of the data while in motion and at rest.
  • Assemble large, complex data sets that meet functional / non-functional business requirements.
  • Application of software engineering principles to create reliable, automated data solutions to solve critical business needs.
  • Documentation of new and existing data processes, tools and pipelines.
  • Evaluate and advocate for modern technologies to accelerate delivery and improve engineering efficiency, reliability and quality of the data pipeline.
  • Work closely with Product, Architecture and Business teams to rapidly translate the understanding of customer data and requirements to product and solutions.
  • Create data tools for analytics and data scientist team members that assist them in building and optimizing our product into an innovative industry leader.
  • Work with the data management team as part of the agile software development life cycle.
  • Coach and mentor engineers to help scale up the data engineering organization.
  • Drive adoption and standardization of data governance, lineage, cataloging, and stewardship practices across teams.
  • Research and experiment with emerging technologies and tools related to big data.
  • Establish and reinforce disciplined software engineering processes and best-practices.
  Skills & Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent (Required).
  • 4 year / Bachelor's Degree (Preferred).
  • Minimum of 5 years  experience operating big data infrastructure in a cloud-based ecosystem (AWS) (Required).
  • Deep understanding of the theoretical and practical tradeoffs of various data formats in object/file stores in combination with a variety of ETL tools (Matillion) (Required).
  • Minimum of 3 years experience with SQL, Python, data pipeline and workflow management tools (Required).
  • Minimum of 3 years experience with establishing and handling streaming data with Kafka or equivalent streaming platform experience (Required).
  • Minimum of 5 years experience with software engineering standard methodologies (Required).
  • Strong, effective communication skills to bring multiple personalities and cultures together to work towards a common goal. (Required).
  • Ability to conceptualize and articulate ideas clearly and concisely (Required).
  • Minimum of 3 years proven experience working with, mentoring, and motivating cross-functional and virtual teams (Required).
  • Experience building enterprise-level software within an agile organization (Required).

 

Nice to have:

  • Product Management tools (Aha!, JIRA, Confluence) (Preferred).
  • Minimum of 3 years experience identifying and resolving performance and data quality issues (Preferred).
  • Minimum of 3 years experience with integration of data from multiple data sources. (Preferred).
  • Minimum of 3 years experience working with Snowflake data warehouses and dimensional modeling practices (Preferred).
  • Understanding of best practices in managing enterprise data including master data, data quality, lineage and security.
  • Agile software development training/certification (Preferred).
