Senior Machine Learning Engineer

The roleWe are looking for a Machine Learning engineer to join our Core Content team. The focus of the team is to deepen the understanding of how machine learning can scale the company. The team is working on 50M+ PDF documents (catalogs, magazines, brochures, etc.) to figure out new ways to transform and utilize the documents, e.g. detecting and extracting articles, auto-generating social posts, improved experience for the readers on our platform (better categorisation of our content, etc.). This work includes PDF decomposition, image analysis, document structure analysis, text analysis and categorization. You will be working end to end from idea inception to creating a production system in close collaboration with the team.

What you bring with you

• A Master’s degree in CS or equivalent.
• Technical depth and 3+ years of practical work experience in machine learning and algorithms. 
• The ability to gather data and implement ML models and evaluate their accuracy as well as producing production quality code.
• Experience with deep learning models; Natural Language Processing, transformers,  image analysis etc.
• Experience with model validation, verification and visualization.
• Experience with ML Ops practices (deploy, maintain, monitor ML models in production).
• Excellent communication skills in English.

• We're currently working on Issuu’s Story Cloud, machine learning for better understanding of our content and improving the experience for the readers on our platform, our famous reading experience and leveraging our platform as a collaborative team, to mention a few examples.
• We currently use Python, Ocaml, Typescript, Javascript, and we’re open to using new languages and/or technologies (we recently started using Rust for some of our services).
• Our architecture is microservice-oriented using AMQP.
• We deploy multiple times a day on AWS and are using Kubernetes, MySQL,PostgreSQL Redis, Node, etc.
• We strive to be agile (who doesn’t?), but we're not religious about Scrum, Kanban or any other methodology.
• We have many cross team guilds where we share knowledge, coordinate efforts, and help each other the best we can.
• “20% time”: everyone gets one day a week to make something better (i.e. learn something new, experiment with new ideas in the product, join efforts with others, improve what you think matters, ... )
