About the Team: 

The core of what makes our company work and our products possible is a small, elite autonomy team that blends cutting edge computer vision, deep learning, and robotics research with real world product development.  We have a unique combination of factors including customized hardware, significant investment in supporting software infrastructure, massive real world data sets, a dedicated flight testing team, and deep customer insight from our existing products that put us in a position to push the state of the art in robotics in a way that few other places can.

About the role:

Skydio is searching for a Head of Deep Learning to own the full ecosystem of our deep learning efforts from research to production, and to grow our world-class presence in the areas of localization, obstacle avoidance, object detection, scene understanding, and 3D reconstruction. We are looking for an elite leader interested in pushing the state-of-the-art and harnessing it to make impactful products. This role will be a key member of our autonomy leadership team and drive progress across several technical and product domains.

How you'll make an impact:

• You will leverage deep learning and computer vision experience combined with high quality software engineering to bring state-of-the-art autonomy technology to market
• You will blend deep learning and geometric approaches to solve real world problems, using our existing expertise in both.
• You will apply research and develop state-of-the-art approaches to core vision problems, and balance this work with practical engineering to get these approaches integrated into our shipping product.  You will get to see your work used by actual customers!
• You will drive complex cross-team goals, collaborating across our autonomy, product management, embedded, mobile, cloud, hardware, and flight test teams with emphasis on excellent communication and collaboration
• You will hire and mentor world-class engineers working on our deep learning systems
• You will use your experience and best practices to uphold and improve Skydio’s engineering standards and drive infrastructure investments that make us successful

What makes you a good fit:

• Deep technical understanding of topics in deep learning, robotics, computer vision, and software systems
• Proven leadership, management, recruiting, team building, and communication skills
• Solid fundamentals in 3D geometry, mathematics, and linear algebra
• You love building flying robots and making them do amazing things in the world
