We have a remote-first culture and this position can be based anywhere from Australia or New Zealand. This role can be fully remote or a hybrid if you are in Melbourne. We encourage you to work in the way that best suits you.

How you can help make a better world of work

The Data Platform team is responsible for the infrastructure and tooling that enables Culture Amp to succeed with data. This includes our Data Lake, Data Warehouse, ML and Data Science tooling, and core ETL pipelines.

Data Engineers in this team build and maintain the platform to be robust, scalable, and cost-effective, while empowering our users (analysts, data scientists, ML engineers) to do their best work.

As part of this team of amazing humans, 

You will 

  • Tackle a wide variety of technical problems across our codebases as you build features and help us deliver a robust, scalable data platform to improve the experience of analysts, data scientists, and ML engineers using the platform
  • Collaborate and guide other engineers in your team through pair/mob programming, writing solution designs, or giving feedback on pull requests, to build shared understanding of your work.
  • Work with the product manager in your team to understand customer problems and help to develop, refine, and then implement solutions.
  • Play a huge role in coaching and uplifting more junior developers in the team
  • Work with engineering leadership to adapt and refine our architectural vision
  • Ensure our data platform is robust, reliable, cost-effective, and protects the privacy and security of our users’ data

You have 

  • You have experience in building and maintaining data management systems at scale. You understand fundamental data engineering concepts, scalability, security, and maintenance.
  • You are a proactive and clear communicator. You value empathy and kindness and are able to articulate your ideas and feelings when writing or speaking, and are open to the perspectives others bring.
  • You seek to understand and solve user problems. You think about how your work – at all levels – impacts our users and improves their experience.
  • Your process involves documenting your work. You write code that is consistent, maintainable, and understood by your teammates.
  • You are excited about the prospect of working to empower and amplify other engineers.
  • You’re self-motivated and can work independently. You take the initiative to ensure that you have everything you need to work efficiently and call for support when required.
  • You love having an impact through enabling others with platforms and tooling
  • You have experience with data offerings in the AWS cloud, such as Athena, Redshift, Glue, EMR, and SageMaker
  • You have experience working with with CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code, especially AWS CDK
  • You have deep knowledge of modern data management practices and tools, across ETL/ELT, data quality, governance, monitoring, etc.
