The mission of the Analytical Empowerment Team is to empower every Pleo’er to take data-inspired actions via a robust and scalable analytics infrastructure. It is the responsibility of Analytics Engineers in the team to provide the frameworks, best practices and expert guidance for how the infrastructure can be used.

At Pleo, we see data as the starting point for making decisions and validating hunches. We use data across all parts of the business:  helping our internal teams make better, data-driven decisions; seeing how our users react to newly shipped features; or with our fraud team to make sure that only the money that companies want to spend is actually spent,

We are strong advocates for diversity here. The engineering team at Pleo is made of people coming from different backgrounds. A Nordic-born company with women, men, aliens and shooting stars from Slovenians, South Africans to Danes and Canadians, in the office but also remotely throughout the world. We even sometimes travel together to explore!

You will thrive in this role if you
  • Are passionate about using modern data tools like dbt, Looker and Bigquery.
  • Like to be involved in both engineering excellent products and understanding business strategy and logic.
  • Find yourself thinking about how to make processes more efficient, and how to remove technical debt.
  • Enjoy solving complex problems like how to unify complex datasets in an efficient, scalable and business-friendly way.
  • Love to grow your own technical skills, and help others do the same.
Your Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with data analysts to design and build scalable, coherent and performant data models in dbt.
  • Help analysts translate data analysis requirements and business rules into technical specifications and model design.
  • Ensure that our final marts layer provides business-friendly datasets that power our data exploration tools, and empower end users to answer their own questions.
  • Provide guidance and promote best practices in technical aspects of our data exploration tools, for example best practices around Lookml in Looker.
  • Create processes and guidance to make sure our data models are well tested and documented so that the resulting datasets are clean, accurate and easily consumable.
  • Align model design across teams and domains to build models that will act as the single source of truth.
  • Collaborate with data engineers to build and maintain tools / frameworks to support how we track and improve data quality, metric definitions and data lineage.
  • Identify technical debt in our analytics tooling and processes, and make suggestions for improvements.
  • Set standards and promote best practices for analytics engineering such as version control, continuous integration, and automated testing.
  • Write high-quality production code with an eye towards performance, scalability and maintainability.
  • Support and provide expert advice for analytics engineering activities across the company.
  • Mentor and develop team members, and encourage professional growth for all members of the competence (and beyond).
In your first year you will work on:
  • Defining and promoting best practices for data transformations and data model development in dbt.
  • Designing or redesigning data models in dbt to improve performance and usability.
  • Rolling out Looker as a new data exploration tool.
  • Building new automations for manual processes to improve our team efficiency.

Why work here?

Working at Pleo means you're working on something very exciting: the future of work. Through fintech we've seen a way to impact how people work; we think company spending should be delegated to all employees and teams, that it should be as automated as possible, and that it should drive a culture of responsible spending. Based on some pretty amazing Series C-round investment in 2021 we think we're onto something big.

So, in a nutshell, that's Pleo. Today we are a 800+ team, from over 74 nations, sitting in our Copenhagen HQ, London, Stockholm, Berlin, Madrid, Montreal, or Lisbon offices – and quite a few full-time remotes in 35 other countries! Being HQ'd out of Copenhagen means we're inspired by sensible things like a good work-life balance. If you don't work in the office with us we'll help you get up the best remote setup possible, and will fly you in for our amazing team camps ✈️
