Principal Data Analytics Engineer

Vir Bio is seeking a Principal Data Analytics Engineer who will work various groups across Vir organization in San Francisco and/or San Diego to support data engineering, data management, and analytics needs across all of Vir. You will collaborate with the Data Science team in Research, Clinical and TechOps to develop data sources to support bioinformatics and machine learning, while collaborating with other groups to provide data marts and analytical tools to support their operations. The Data Science team, formed by engineers, bioinformaticians, genome analysts and machine learning specialists, builds data infrastructure, pipelines and data analytics across the company. 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES

• Lead software architecture, design, delivery & deployment of core data platforms and data science applications at VIR Biotechnology
• Act as a guide/mentor to all delivery teams
• Responsible for creating optimal software design that can scale & perform in a direct-to-consumer environment
• Bridge Enterprise Architecture, Delivery and Operations
• Manage multiple projects and milestones
• Drive adoption of advanced cloud-based features & capabilities
• Collaborate with the development and operational teams in building out infrastructure and troubleshooting production issues
• Review and enhance documentation and knowledgebase
• Seek, give, and receive critical feedback in a constructive manner, including but not limited to code review 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• BS or MS in Computer Science or a science-related field with 12+ years development experience in Python, Java or similar object-oriented languages (recent experience coding Java / Python projects) and at least 5+ years of experience as a full stack developer
• Experience as a Technical Lead, Technical Architect, or related position, with strong fundamentals 
• Demonstrated experience in building health care data platform using technologies like Data Bricks, Snowflakes, Redshifts, Immuta etc.
• Demonstrated capability in building executive level dashboard using Tableau, Spotfire
• Experience architecting cloud-based solutions and deploying workloads in AWS technologies like ECR, EMR, EKS, AWS Lambda, Redshift etc.
• Experience with message queues like JMS, Kafka, RabittMQ etc.
• Extensive Experience on DBMS (MySQL, PostgreSQL, etc.)  and ORM tools like Hibernate
• Code/Build/Deployment: GIT, Maven, Docker, Jenkins, Kubernetes, etc.
• Business domain knowledge in Pharmaceutical and Biotech industry is plus.
