Supernal is at the forefront of creating emerging mobility solutions that will foster the development of human-centered cities. We are designing a completely new electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft tailored to the mobility needs of future cities. This allows passengers a seamless intermodal journey that safely transports them to their final destination. We fuse research in autonomy, robotics, aviation and services to define a new category of mobility for the world’s communities. What we do:

Data is the backbone of Supernal from developing our autonomous air vehicles to building the global ecosystem for advanced air mobility to building, scaling, and running an efficient, effective, and data driven business. The new Data team architects and manages UAM’s internal data infrastructure, partners with users across the company to enable data driven solutions and runs strategic projects to stay at the forefront of data and analytical capabilities. We are a team of data engineers, data architects, data scientists, data analysts, data you-name-it, and we’re building out a ground breaking data platform and capability for this new business comprised of modern leading technologies to enable the next generation of mobility solutions.

As Head of Data on the new Data department, you will build and manage Supernal’s cross-functional data platform and capabilities. You will have the opportunity and support to truly innovate and build the right data solution from ground up to help implement our vision of an advanced air mobility future. You will enable Supernal to leverage data to drive positive outcomes across the business, including Engineering, R&D, Strategy, People Operations, and senior executives while balancing security and data democracy. You will be a leading voice in our data strategy and its delivery.

What you can do:

Develop and drive hybrid data strategy balancing compliance and security with data democracy and data discovery

  • Build strong relationships with key collaborators across the business to ensure alignment with key Supernal priorities based on their needs, timelines, and priorities
  • Collaborate with legal, compliance, and other key collaborators to understand audit, compliance, and legal requirements and develop innovative solutions to ensure strong audit and compliance
  • Oversee development and adherence to applicable security controls, policies, and standards – partner with business owners to synchronize plans to remediate gaps
  • Communicate the data strategy and implementation with the wider business to evangelize modern data solutions and capabilities for the best outcomes

Develop and implement robust data platform and capabilities based on strategy in an agile manner focused on outcomes

  • Develop, deploy, and manage data platform, capabilities, and supporting technologies both on premise and in cloud services
  • Create enterprise and high priority data requirements (e.g., digital thread)
  • Develop, manage, and mature program related controls, documentation, testing, and alignment with other business objectives and priorities
  • Manage a growing budget, resources, and teams
  • Identify and implement strong technology partnerships with third parties for both key data technologies and services

Lead and grow Data department colleagues to be cohesive, collaborative, transparent, kind, and outcome driven

  • Define and implement agile OKRs, KPIs, KRIs, and other key metrics for a data driven approach to implementation and improvement
  • Lead by example and create a culture of high, outcome driven performance with true collaboration and kindness
  • Develop team members individually and as a team to optimize their potential

What you can contribute:

  • B.S. in relevant field such as computer science, mathematics, physics, software engineering, data science, or information sciences or equivalent work experience
  • 10+ years of relevant work experience (an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered)
  • Demonstrated experience developing, deploying, and managing complex, big data programs and supporting technologies (including lakehouses, complex integrated systems, and variety of workflow tools) both on premise and in cloud services with proven business outcomes across diverse use cases, including highly technical engineering use cases (e.g., AML, testing with sensor hardware)
  • Professional experience and comfort with:
    • Developing and implementing agile OKRs, KRIs, and KPIs
    • Developing and managing budgets, vendors, and collaborator relationships across level
    • Implementing creative technology solutions that ensure compliance and security requirements are met while enhancing data discovery and data democracy
    • Leading and growing a team to be cohesive, collaborative, transparent, kind, and outcome driven
    • Collaborating across business units to drive outcomes
    • Managing audit, compliance, security controls, policies, and standards
  • Creative and curious problem solver, able to take an ambiguous and complex need and develop data / analytics solutions
  • Able to work in a rapidly changing and ambiguous environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to work across the business with diverse, technical, and non-technical colleagues from entry level to executive
  • Continuous learner and strong decision maker that takes the time to gather input but can make hard decisions and bring the team along
  • Collaborative teammate and service-based leader with commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
  • Experience in industry working with highly regulated data, i.e., aerospace, automotive, healthcare, finance

You may also be able to contribute:

  • Graduate degree in relevant field
  • Aerospace background
  • Experience with export-controlled data
  • Experience applying data and analytics to a variety of use cases from business development to aerospace / automotive engineering to manufacturing / production and more
  • Experience supporting analytics and ML use cases
  • Experience using Jira and Atlassian tools
