Join Takeda as an Associate Director where you will help develop the vison, strategy, roadmap and execution of building, maintaining, and continuous learning for all data and analytics platforms in Global Biologics. You will also work with scientists and with experts in data management, lab automation, molecular design, and machine learning in the Global Biologics organization to build and continuously improve data infrastructure. Here, you will drive analytics initiatives to derive actionable insights from data, enabling data-driven decision-making across the organization. As part of the Biologics Informatics and Automation, you will report to the Head of the team and create a build, test and learn system for biologics discovery, in which predictions guide experiments and high throughput data generated is fed back to the models to improve the next round of predictions.

How you will contribute:
  • Work with scientists across Global Biologics to develop and build end-to-end data management capabilities for biologics discovery.
  • In close partnership with Research technologies and Lab Systems teams in the Data Science Institute build scalable and efficient data pipelines for ingesting, processing, and storing structured and unstructured data from multiple sources.
  • Implement best practices in data management, ETL processes, and data quality assurance to maintain high standards of data integrity and reliability in Takeda Research.
  • Map existing data sources and schemas to ontology concepts and classes.
  • Ensure alignment between ontology models and existing data structures to facilitate data integration and interoperability.
  • Enable real time collaboration around data through the use of dashboards and other visualizations.
  • Oversee the implementation of data visualization tools and platforms to empower stakeholders with intuitive access to data insights.
  • Owns the data accuracy, quality & governance for Global Biologics; accountable for supporting reporting, analytics and the user community.
  • Evaluate and recommend new technologies and tools to enhance data engineering and analytics capabilities, considering scalability, security, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Oversee the design and execution of experiments, data analysis, and interpretation to guide decision-making as well as further learning and optimize drug discovery efforts.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to team members, fostering their professional growth and development.
  • Collaborate effectively within a matrix environment, with scientists across various scientific disciplines, therapeutic areas, and departments to develop a strategy and appropriate goals for data science work

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
  • PhD degree in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or a related field with 7+ years experience , or MS with 13+ years experience, or BS with 15+ years experience.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in data science, engineering and bioinformatics in the life sciences.
  • Proven track record of building and/or developing scalable data pipelines in a pharmaceutical or biotechnology setting.
  • Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Spotfire) and advanced analytics techniques (e.g., machine learning) is required.
  • Exceptional leadership and people management skills.

We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career. We are committed to equitable pay for all employees, and we strive to be more transparent with our pay practices. 

For Location:

Boston, MA

U.S. Base Salary Range:

$149,100.00 - $234,300.00

The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location. 

U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-term and/ or long-term incentives. U.S. based employees may be eligible to participate in medical, dental, vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, a tuition reimbursement program, paid volunteer time off, company holidays, and well-being benefits, among others. U.S. based employees are also eligible to receive, per calendar year, up to 80 hours of sick time, and new hires are eligible to accrue up to 120 hours of paid vacation.
