The Role – Senior Data Engineer

The core mission of the data team is to provide meaningful recommendations and actionable insights from our users’ and client data as we strive to build the best version of Unmind.

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will contribute to this mission by owning and building out our data platform architecture to enable data analysts and data scientists - as well as key stakeholders to access a variety of business and platform insights for critical decision making.

This is an exciting opportunity to create impact from the ground up and build out the data engineering function at Unmind. You will sit within our data team and collaborate closely with our Software and Systems Engineers.

Things you'll do in this role

We move quickly, which means that the focus and responsibilities of any position can be quite dynamic – but here’s how we initially see your skills and passion coming to life at Unmind.

Build - You will be responsible for creating the technology and data platform architecture that moves and translates the data we use to inform our strategic decisions and provide value to our users and clients.

Own - You will own the data engineering roadmap, I.e. the department's data integration work as well as the design, build, and implementation of our data platform architecture

Drive - As our main data engineer, you will drive best practices, technical discussions and decision - making to ensure that Unmind uses the most appropriate approach, technologies and tools for the job.

Collaborate - You will work very cross-functionally, partner with our data analysts, data scientists, systems engineers, software engineers, and our key stakeholders to identify performance enhancements and opportunities for leveraging the organisation’s data assets to create impact in a fast-moving environment.


Skills and Experience

We firmly believe that no-one is the finished article and that there should be learning in every role you do. However, the following experience and skills are important for the role

  • Skills in the following programming languages or frameworks: SQL, Python, Postgres, Git, and terraform or other IaC tooling
  • Experience designing, building, and implementing data platform architecture
  • Strong data wrangling skills (e.g. transformations, merging, cleaning, enriching, etc.)
  • Experience with integrating third-party data sources using tools like Stitch, Fivetran, etc.
  • Experience with monitoring data quality, job execution times, job success/failure and remediation as well as query performance
  • Ability to understand & translate business requirements into data transformation steps
