Junior Data Scientist

IT Concepts Chief Innovation Office is seeking a Junior Data Scientist to work on internal R&D projects which directly impact ITC’s projects and programs. This role is part of a fast-paced and fast-growing office within ITC and is a great opportunity for an early career data scientist who wants to gain experience in a variety of data science skills. Innovation is a priority for ITC and a priority for our leadership. The CINO team is a cross functional team chartered to advance collaboration, efficiency, and adoption of emerging technologies; this role will support data science projects that further innovation at ITC.

As a Junior Data Scientist, you will work on a variety of projects relating to many functions and clients at ITC. This role is an exciting opportunity to learn and grow skills as a data scientist in a hands-on environment. The ideal candidate will be able to code with python and use machine learning and database-related packages, will be willing to learn new technologies and software packages, will be able to solve problems independently, and will be able to communicate on the progress of their work to technical and nontechnical audiences. Candidates of any academic background or past work experiences are encouraged to apply to this role.

Examples of work that may be performed includes developing an algorithm to match employees to contract work, responding to SBIR (Small Business Innovation Research) projects, and other opportunities. Our team uses tools such as Jupyter notebooks, AWS, GitLab, Sagemaker, Pandas, and NumPy; you will be expected to have knowledge of these systems or be willing and able to learn how to use them.

Primary Responsibilities

• Problem Solving – Use technologies to design solutions for well-identified business needs. Solve quantitative problems. Resolve issues in solution creation or implementation through research and creativity.
• Willingness to Learn – Identify gaps in your knowledge and pursue learning opportunities. Each project will provide new challenges; acquire skills and experience to meet those challenges along the way.
• Organization – Keep track of progress on projects and organize next steps under direction of managers.
• Communication – Ability to communicate the purpose and progress of projects to stakeholders through verbal, email, and written mediums.
• Technical Skills – Familiarity with Python and its packages. Willingness to learn other software and systems as needed.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university
• Strong communications and presentation skills. Ability to present analytical data to lay persons in an easy-to-understand way.
• Able to work independently when given high level direction
• Intellectually curious and willing to learn with the expectation to grow and expand your skillsets to keep pace with the evolving customer landscape
• Coding with Python, Pandas, and NumPy

Experience Preferred

• Strong analytical and quantitative problem-solving ability
• Ability to thrive in a fast paced and evolving environment
• Knowledge of database building, data cleaning, and other database skills
• Familiarity with commonly used data science technologies
