Data Engineer Intern (50% student role)

About the role & team

 

We are the largest data science and engineering team of Swiss Re and are looking for an intern who is enthusiastic about applying data science to real-world problems. We create global data science products made in Bratislava. Our focus is not only on machine learning and statistical modelling, but we also enjoy data engineering and bringing our models into production.

 

If you join us, you will be able to participate in a variety of interesting initiatives. For example, you will:

 

- Help us analyze complex legal terms in insurance policies using Generative AI,

- Build models to predict the life expectancy or predict the CO2 footprint of companies,

- Support us in better understanding weather related risks for farming in China,

- Support many other exciting projects in a collaborative environment with colleagues from Swiss Re's international offices.

 

We are a highly skilled and diverse team in Bratislava that solves analytics projects around the globe. Our passion to learn is what connects us. We love to learn new skills and will support you to do the same! We reserve time for studying and organize our own upskilling sessions as well.

 

About you

 

Nobody is perfect and meets 100% of requirements. If you, however, meet some of the criteria below and are genuinely curious about the world of data science, we will be happy to meet you.

 

In order to be successful in the role, you need to meet the following criteria:

- You are studying Computer Science, a statistics program, Math, Physics or other quantitative field, and have some experience in software engineering. We welcome different levels and help to fill the gaps.

- You have knowledge of Python

 

If you also have the following experience and interests, it is a huge plus:

- Background in software engineering

- Experience in distributed computing

- Interest in building production grade data ingestion and transformation pipelines

The minimum gross base salary for this role is 9 EUR/h. Our final offer to you will be set up fairly, considering the skills and experience that you bring to the Swiss Re Group.
