The Role:

Reporting to the Head of Project and Portfolio Management, Generate Biomedicines is seeking an accomplished Technical Program Manager / Senior Program Manager for a critical role driving business and product outcomes across bioinformatics, IT, machine-learning, and digital strategy initiatives to continue to grow Generate’s one-of-a-kind technical platform for AI-driven protein therapeutic discovery. The Program Manager will work in close collaboration with team leads and executive leadership to develop and execute on plans for developing machine learning models, custom-developed software, and other key cross-functional initiatives. 

The successful candidate will be able to effectively develop and execute project plans with a deep understanding of technical requirements and influence stakeholders and cross-functional team members to drive to successful outcomes. The Program Manager will exhibit strong management skills as well as make individual contributions and will contribute to a highly collaborative and integrated culture across the organization. The Program Manager must thrive in a fast-paced, highly interdisciplinary entrepreneurial environment, and have the desire to tackle large challenges. This role presents a unique opportunity to have a direct hand in building a first-of-its kind AI-driven digital biotech. 

The position is Somerville, MA based.  

Key responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and monitor integrated multidisciplinary project plans that enable Generate’s digital strategy and allow for data driven decision making; Ensure alignment on timeline and deliverables 
  • Work in close collaboration with team leaders, team members and functional / executive leadership to achieve goals and establish a culture of success and learning within the team 
  • Develop and extend technical knowledge and thought partner with teams on the development of the best strategic and tactical plans 
  • Implement agreed project governance, steering and change control processes 
  • Create a budget and operating plan which will effectively allocate money and resources to multiple AI/ML projects within time and budget.  
  • Effectively engage with key stakeholders (internal and external) to ensure timely achievement of project deliverables 
  • Identify and communicate program priorities, risks and resource limitations 
  • Research and identify best practices for managing AI/ML programs. Continuously refine processes to codify lessons learned. 
  • Organize project meetings, prepare agendas, maintain detailed notes, and follow up on action items 
  • Produce regular project reports and management updates

About you:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.A. or B.S. degree (or equivalent) in computational sciences, applied mathematics, information systems, life sciences or other relevant field 
  • 3+ year of professional project management experience in biotech or Pharma 
  • Experience leading team of technical subject matter experts, including software engineers and scientists 
  • Experience with or ability to create KPI's and other performance metrics around data science, artificial intelligence, and/or machine learning projects 
  • Excellent grasp of software practices and agile development environments 
  • Seasoned Project Manager with familiarity with latest tools, techniques, and methodologies to drive consistency across programs 
  • Proven ability to lead and deliver results within project driven timelines 
  • Good presentation and communication skills across all levels of an organization 
  • Conflict resolution experience and capabilities with excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to influence 
  • Ability to work within a team in a cross-cultural environment 

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Agile methodology certification (e.g. PMI-ACP, PSM, AgilePM) 
  • Background in software development in a commercial environment

  • Ability to work collaboratively on multiple projects concurrently in a fast-paced environment 
  • Results-driven, high-performer with highly collaborative style 
  • Highly self-motivated with demonstrated ability to multitask, manage time, handle uncertainty, and work under pressure with limited oversight 
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills 
  • Demonstrated ability to build alignment and drive resolution of issues while maintaining positive working relationships across functions 
  • Ability to apply basic project management principles including, but not limited to, identifying critical paths, building and communicating timelines, defining milestones and methods for setting expectations and accountability. 
  • Proficiency with SharePoint, Microsoft Teams, Smartsheet and other PM management workspace collaboration tools 
  • Ability to collect and rationalize technical requirements, deep enough understanding of technology development to accurately derive time and effort estimates from requirements
