Staff/Senior Staff Software Engineer, Machine Learning Platform

About the Role

In this role, you’ll be a part of the Machine Learning and Data Science team that combats fraud, improves member experience, builds recommendations for users and much more. As a key technical leader to Chime’s ML platform, which includes infrastructure for building and deploying production ML models (model training, batch and transactional inference) as well as model monitoring and alerting. Your work will accelerate ML development across all ML Platform teams as we scale up and out alongside Chime’s explosive member growth.

For Colorado based roles: In accordance with applicable law, this role has an annual starting salary of $217,600 plus bonus, a competitive equity package, and benefits. The actual pay may be higher depending on your location, skills, qualifications, and experience. (Please do not delete)

In this role, you can expect to

• Drive machine learning architecture and technical decisions to support our quality, performance, scalability, reliability, availability, and security goals.
• Design and build technology platform for batch and real-time pipelines (data and machine learning), to enable batch transform, distributed training and low-latency transactional inference
• Be a key contributor to long-term strategy and architecture for interoperability of all Chime's core platforms
• Design and implement APIs and integrations between our machine learning platform services with the rest of the company’s systems
• Design and implement large-scale data ecosystems including data management, governance and the integration of structured and unstructured data to generate insights using cloud-based platforms
• Design and lead implementation of complete distributed systems to meet all business needs, including service level objectives, scaling and performance requirements, anticipating common failure patterns and designing for resiliency of the overall system.
• Serve as a role model for mentorship within the engineering organization and encourages innovation and foster an environment of continuous improvement.

To thrive in this role, you have

• CS or related degree with 10+ years of proven experience designing, implementing and deploying large-scale distributed systems, backend systems, data or machine learning platform in production
• ​Excellent communication and collaboration skills
• Excellent problem solving and analytical thinking skills
• An authority in platform technology, architectural designs and software engineering fundamentals (Python, Golang, or similar languages)
• Demonstrated experience leading large-scale projects, from ideation to operation while collaborating with cross-functional teams
• Experience working with CI/CD technologies (Jenkins and CircleCI), Docker and orchestration technologies (Kubernetes, Spinnaker, and Helm is preferred)
• Experience working with leading data infrastructure technologies such as datastores (SQL/NoSQL dbs) and data streaming/processing (Flink, Spark, Kafka, Airflow, AWS SageMaker) is preferred
• Experience working with data science teams that use machine learning tools and frameworks (Keras, Tensorflow, SparkML, pandas, scikit-learn, etc) is a plus
• Technologies we use: Sagemaker, Spark, Kafka, Redis, MySQL, Postgres, Python, AWS Cloud Services, Snowflake and Looker, among many others.
