The Big Data Analytics Platform Team
Bazaarvoice has access to the sentiment contained in hundreds of millions of reviews on hundreds of millions of products across a variety of industries as well as the browsing behavior of close to 600 million users a month across our client sites. Our analytics teams leverage these data sets to help our clients build better products, build stronger relationships with their customers, and make decisions on when and where to offer products.  A big area of business growth for Bazaarvoice will come from the efforts of our analytics teams.
The BDAP team is responsible for building and operating a scalable big data platform that empowers any Bazaarvoice team to register and make their data sets available to all other Bazaarvoice teams for any use case. Primary consumers of our big data platform are Software Engineers, Data Engineers, Data Scientists, and Data Analysts. We empower discovery, innovation, and automation across the business.
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for a Senior Big Data Software Engineer to join our team to help build out the data store and discovery layer of Bazaarvoice data that will power our client-facing reporting, product performance reporting, and financial reporting. The ideal candidate has built and operated systems that aggregate and share data sets to support new product offerings and is well experienced in evaluating the right technologies for a platform. Success in the role is underpinned by a strong understanding of the business cases of the product portfolio and building relevant tools, data sets, and access methodologies that support the portfolio goals.

What you'll be doing

• Own design, implementation, and support of major components of big data platform development
• Define how data is to be captured, how it should be aggregated and made available
• Implementation of the mechanisms, systems, and software to make it happen
• Use your strong grasp of the technology stack to guide where we go next

Necessary skills and experience

• Experience with highly scalable distributed systems
• In-depth knowledge of the software development lifecycle (design, build, test, deploy, support)
• An ability to demonstrate software engineering fundamentals such as OO design, unit testing, code reuse, code reviews
• Extensive knowledge of different programming/scripting languages such as Java, C++, PHP, Ruby, Python, etc.
• Familiarity with one or more big-data infrastructures such as Hbase, Hadoop, Kafka, Casandra, or RDBMS
• Knowledge of some of the following technologies or concepts: Hadoop, HBase, MapReduce, or other Big Data technologies
• Knowledge of some of the following scheduling services: Airflow, Oozie.
• Data ETL and data modeling
• Modern build tools such as Maven, Hudson, Github, etc.
• Agile development methodology
• An understanding and experience in building high-performance algorithms
• Experience building large-scale systems with extensive knowledge in data warehousing solutions
• Developing prototypes and proof-of-concept systems
• Linux
