Onto is Europe's largest electric car subscription service, growing at over 20% month on month, with over 5,500 subscribers today, we’re looking to at least double our customers in 2022. We are a high-growth tech scale-up, having launched 4 years ago with significant funding from top-tier VCs, most recently raising £125 million of equity and debt in July 2021 through a Series B funding round. As you would expect from a tech-driven company we’re working across a number of exciting technologies. We’re cloud-based at heart, focussed around AWS. Our back-end technology of choice is Python using the Django framework with our front end written in React with Redux. We also use GraphQL for our APIs. Our apps are native, written in Swift using SwiftUI and Kotlin respectively. We have actively started our journey to break down our monolith into micro-services and expect to continue this in 2022. We’ve initially selected Python and FastAPI to do this

Requirements

What you will do

• Heavily contribute and often lead design and implementation of Onto’s Lakehouse data platform using AWS infrastructure (including Kineses and Spark streaming, Glue, S3, Data Crawlers, and Lake Formation)
• Continually find opportunities to optimise Onto’s ingestion pipelines, Onto’s ever-growing S3 data lake, and automated CI/CD with Terraform and CircleCI
• Communicate work with other teams and act as a mentor to other engineers
• Develop code using agile methodologies while focusing on short-term and long-term technical strategy
• Understand stakeholder needs and the ultimate business value of data in order to find optimal solutions
• Build and iterate a best-in-class data platform that enables Onto to provide the absolute best experience for customers by combining a deep understanding customer values and needs and operational excellence
• Create and maintain technical documentation to democratise knowledge of Onto’s data platform
  

What you need

For this role, you will need to have:

• Experience in both building reliable and scalable data pipelines and solutions and being the technical lead on projects
• Someone who can influence their team by leading the solution design, communicating with other teams, and acting as a mentor to other engineers
• Someone who values contributing to a functional, psychologically-safe team dynamic through proactive feedback, accountability, and dedication to results
• Experience in cloud environments, preferably AWS data applications
• Experience using Python, Spark, PySpark, and/or Scala in data pipelines
• Experience working with diverse data sets and discovering how they can link within a data ecosystem
• Demonstrated ability to lead projects in an agile team

It would be a bonus for you to have:

• Experience working on micro-service
• Experience with containerisation e.g Kubernetes
• Automation using IaaC
