Job summary
Amazon Web Services (AWS) Professional Services is looking for a Senior Advisory Consultant who is passionate about helping the US Department of Defense (DoD) realize value from data and investments in cloud-based analytics, AI/ML, and data governance. The ideal candidate will support DoD customers seeking to adopt AWS as partner to develop and execute data strategies enabled by cloud adoption.

You are passionate about enabling DoD to be data-driven at all levels and an expert at communicating approaches to employ data as a strategic asset. You can be an advisor to Chief Data Officers, major program managers, and DoD AI/ML leaders. You have depth of experience in data governance and data engineering, with demonstrable expertise in one or more of the following: AI/ML development, enterprise database engineering, analytics, model-based systems engineering, augmented and virtual reality, data fusion and sensor integration. You enjoy collaborating with customers and engineers and have great communication skills that support distilling actionable strategies and outcomes for customers engaged in digital transformation.

We anticipate at least 5-15 days onsite per month based on customer requirements.

Responsibilities include:
  • Leading collaboration with DoD customers to develop and enable data-oriented strategies and architectures across on-prem, hybrid, and all-in-cloud technology stacks.
  • Lead workshops, readiness assessments, and engagements intended to clarify customer planning and requirements related to enterprise migrations, data analytics, AI/ML product development, and integration of AI/ML technologies. Lead architectural design sessions with customers related to analytics and data engineering.
  • Provide deep consultative guidance on migrating large, complex datasets to AWS and employing cloud-based data engineering and analytics capabilities.
  • Define best practices around advanced data analytics, data warehousing, data lakes, data mesh deployments, data mining, archiving, and machine learning (ML) solutions.
  • Serve as a lead consultant for cross-functional customer engagements, developing vision and program strategy with DoD customers while working as a team with AWS ProServe, Solutions Architecture, sales teams, Partner teams, and service teams to enable a customer endstates
  • Develop strategy-focused relationships with DoD Chief Data Officers and Chief Information Officers focused realizing the value of DoD data for a diverse set of mission areas while addressing modernization of data governance strategies.
  • Collaborate with customers with customers to develop strategies related to networking, storage, compute, virtualization, augmented/virtual reality, AI/ML technologies, RDBMS & NoSQL databases, Big Data, Hadoop, MapReduce, and mid-tier technologies (application integration, security, in-memory caches).
  • Advise and support DoD customers responsible for developing AI/ML products and projects, providing prescriptive recommendations and best practice guidance for AI/ML development and employment.
  • Support DoD customers seeking to take advantage for diverse outcomes to include Model-Based Systems Engineering Digital Engineering, Activity Based Intelligence, and broad-based integration of machine learning to support activities to include command and control, logistics, cyber operations, operational meteorology, military intelligence.
  • Deliver results by assessing and contributing to capture and proposal activities specific to AWS ProServe support to analytics, data engineering, data governance, and related activities. Support the account, capture, and proposal teams as they develop and implement capture strategies, partner strategies, proposal approaches, and technical solutions.

This position requires that the candidate selected be a U.S. citizen and must currently possess an active DoD Top Secret, or higher, security clearance (or be eligible for reinstatement). The position further requires that, after start, the selected candidate obtain and maintain an active DoD security clearance.

Basic Qualifications


  • 10+ years of consulting/management experience, with demonstrated experience related to data product development, data engineering for distributed systems, and/or enterprise data strategies, AI/ML development, enterprise data engineering, database modernization.
  • Undergraduate degree or 7+ years of experience in computer science, data science, software design, cybersecurity, or IT operations applications in lieu of no Bachelor’s degree.
  • 5+ years' experience in Database, Data Warehousing, and/or Analytics Systems development and deployment experience.
  • 3+ years working specifically with the Department of Defense or Federal Civilian agencies as a software engineering manager, enterprise architect, consultant, or IT manager.
  • Experience partnering with executive stakeholders as a trusted advisor as well as enabling technical and engineering leaders
  • Demonstrated ability to work creatively and analytically in meeting customer needs, to include leading collaborative design and strategy sessions with customers.
  • Implementation and architectural experience with Big Data, Data Warehousing, Business Intelligence, or AI/ML engineering.
  • Knowledge of architecture and policies related to DoD logistics, battlespace awareness, geospatial, medical/health, digital engineering, business, cyber, or command and control (C2) systems.
  • Willingness to travel to customer locations as needed (estimated up to 30% travel requirement if based in FL, and up to 50% travel requirement if otherwise remote)
-Hands-on AWS Architecture and Engineering experience (AWS Associate or higher preferred)


Preferred Qualifications

  • DoD 8140 / 8570.01 certifications (Information Assurance/Cybersecurity Workforce)
  • Master’s degree, or additional graduate-level certification in a management, data science, quantitative social science, systems engineering, computer science, applied mathematics, operations research, or related field.
  • Prior experience as a DoD technical program manager or software engineering lead.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Meets/exceeds Amazon’s leadership principles requirements for this role.
  • Meets/exceeds Amazon’s functional/technical depth and complexity.
