Cornell's colleges and schools encompass more than 100 fields of study, with locations in...Within the Division of Student and Campus Life (SCL), the SCL-OVP financial and operational support team ensures the effective deployment of Information Technology, Facilities, Accounting, Data-Driven-Decision Capabilities, Risk Management, Management/Financial Reporting, Data and Business Analytics, and Financial Planning support services to departments within the division. Working collaboratively as integrated cross-functional partners, leaders from the SCL-OVP support team strive to enhance day-to-day operational effectiveness, deliver timely business reporting and information to stakeholders, manage key divisional processes and steward financial and capital resources on behalf of the SCL-VP.
Supporting the Director of Data, Analytics, & Business Intelligence, the Associate Director of Data and Data Governance plays a pivotal role in leading the efforts in data quality, governance, literacy, ecosystem sustainability and management across the Student and Campus Life (SCL) division. This role is integral to the division’s mission by supporting data-informed decision-making processes and enhancing the operational effectiveness of the SCL division.
This individual is responsible for establishing and implementing University based lined data standards for SCL by leading data governance efforts, and acting as an informational hub that aligns divisional priorities with unit business and data knowledge, industry trends and technological advancements. A significant part of this role includes creating a measurable data governance strategy, developing practices and standards around data governance with the support of a data steward group, ensuring the division's data architecture is modern, secure, and optimized for data and analytics. The Associate Director of Data and Data Governance will work closely with multiple units within SCL and across the university, such as the Privacy Group and Cornell Information Technologies (CIT), to stay informed on data security mandates and ensure compliance.

A successful Associate Director of Data and Data Governance will:
- Effectively lead data governance and quality initiatives in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment.
- Demonstrate superior expertise with data cataloging tools, master data management and data governance strategies.
- Understand and utilize data architectures as well as data supply chain, knowledge graphs, data flows, and business data architecture in order to regularly optimize data foundations that drive sustainable and scalable predictive analytics.
- Possess excellent communication, interpersonal and project management skills that allow effective working relationships with diverse teams and stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
- Regularly show a commitment to continuous learning and development in the field of data management and analytics.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Information Science, Computer Science/Engineering, Information Technology, or related field a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience focused in data governance, data quality management or library science or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
- Demonstrated experience with data governance tools and practices, including data quality management and data cataloging.
- Strong understanding of data supply chains, master data management, data governance maturity models.
- Strategic thinker proficiency in Excel, Tableau, and analytics software, with a demonstrated ability to manage ad hoc analytical projects.
- Continuous learner that will stay informed about and up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices.
- Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.
- Proven experience connecting diversity, inclusion, and wellbeing practices to business goals.
Preferred Qualifications
- Excellent analytical, organizational, change management, communication, and project management skills.
- Experience in higher education or complex organizational settings.
- Advanced degree in a related field.
- Professional certifications in data governance.
