Job summary
Are you interested in applying your machine learning and data science skills to derive innovative products for Amazon Pharmacy customers? Key job responsibilities
As an applied scientist on our team, your role is to leverage your strong background in Computer Science, Statistics, and Machine Learning to develop predictive models in pharmaceutical pricing space. In addition, you will also contribute to the development and assessment pipelines of the product integrations. You will harness and explain rich data, and provide automated insights to improve machine learned solution that impact Amazon Pharmacy and PillPack customers. This role requires a pragmatic technical leader comfortable with ambiguity, capable of summarizing complex data and models through clear visual and written explanations, and self-driven researcher. You will closely collaborate with engineers, product managers, developers, UX researchers, and other scientists to balance the essential tradeoffs within the algorithm design and implementation, and effectively communicate your proposals and results to stakeholders and senior management.

The ideal candidate will have experience with machine learning, statistical, and causal inference modeling, and end-to-end ML workflow. Additionally, we are seeking candidates with strong rigor in applied sciences and engineering, creativity, curiosity, sense of ownership, and great judgment. The qualified candidate will have a proven history of driving critical research and development and developing in-depth analytical understanding of systems.

Your responsibilities include:
• Design, build, and deploy effective and innovative predictive models and ML solutions within the context of pharmaceutical pricing,
• Partner with tech, business, and operation stakeholders to design and implement solutions and define the key performance indicators.
• Develop and deploy real-time ML models using AWS services.
• Evaluate the proposed solutions via offline benchmark tests as well as online A/B tests in production.
• Publish and present your work at internal and external scientific venues in the fields of ML/NLP/IR.

About the team
The Mathematical Modeling and Data Science team is the core science team designed to provide decision support tools and execution algorithms for the fields of fulfillment, inventory management, clinical and shipment quality, and pricing at Amazon Pharmacy. We are looking for motivated individuals with expertise in machine learning, image processing, predictive modeling, optimization, simulation-based design, and/or control theory to join our team.

Basic Qualifications


PhD degree with 2+ years of applied research experience or a Master's degree and 4+ years of experience of applied research experience in industry and/or academia in the following disciplines Computer Science, Optimization, Statistics, Machine Learning, Applied Mathematics, Operations Research, Chemical Engineering, or a related quantitative field. • Experience in designing and executing analytic and/or algorithmic solutions to business or operational problems. • Proficiency in model development, model validation and model implementation for large-scale applications. • Strong problem-solving ability and dealing with ambiguity. • Ability to convey mathematical results to non-science stakeholders. • Ability to self-direct, multitask, and prioritize a constantly evolving workload. • Proficient with a high-level programming language (Python, Julia, R, etc) for efficient computation, database querying (SQL) and familiar with object-oriented programming. • Experience with using a modern ML framework such as TensorFlow, MXNet or PyTorch. • Understanding of the software development cycle: develop, build, test, deployment and monitoring

Preferred Qualifications

PhD in Computer Science, Optimization, Statistics, Machine Learning, Applied Mathematics, Operations Research, Chemical Engineering, or a related quantitative field. • Extensive practical experience in several of the following areas: machine learning, statistics, linear programming/optimization, causal inference, deep learning, forecasting. • Expertise in predictive modeling, statistics, or other related fields. • Demonstrable track record of dealing well with ambiguity, prioritizing needs, and delivering results in a dynamic environment. • Team player, willing to mentor others, and share knowledge and experience with their team.
