Manager - Machine Learning (f/m/x)

Wayfair’s Customer Interaction and Operations Data Science team builds algorithmic systems that drive business impact for our backbone Operations organization. The team has a wide range of scope, for example developing scam and payment fraud detection algorithms that work reliably at scale; leveraging NLP models, like BERT, to extract actionable insights from large volumes of customer text feedback (e.g. reviews), building ML solutions to power the delivery time prediction. 

As the Machine Learning (Senior) Manager, you will lead the teams that deploy and maintain production models in real-time and offline, and have the overall responsibility to up-level our machine learning engineering capability - our goal is to significantly increase the delivery velocity you will be key to achieving this goal. 

In this position, you will have exposure to a broad range of machine learning projects that vary in maturity and are often built from the ground up. You will further develop & execute the strategy to empower our ML & data science teams to improve speed-to-production, impact and scalability. We expect you to drive these changes through a mix of: (1) leading sprint teams of machine learning engineers to directly drive and own operationalization (2) up-level existing data scientists’s engineering proficiency via tooling and education (3) working with Wayfair’s platforms & infrastructure teams to drive adoption of new technology in the machine learning space and more.

What You’ll Do:

• Further develop & execute machine learning engineering strategy and roadmap 
• Develop a world class and diverse team of machine learning engineers who partner with data science teams to operationalize dozens of machine learning models
• Serve as a senior subject matter expert on machine learning technology
• Increase the rate of delivery of the ML product through stronger engineering practices and best-in-class technology
• Promote a culture of engineering excellence and strengthen the technical expertise of our engineering and data science teams
• Partner with the platform and infrastructure teams and contribute to Wayfair’s overall ML Ops strategy

What You’ll Need:

• A minimum of 4+ years of hands-on experience in software engineering and designing systems at scale
• Track record of building engineering teams that can innovate rapidly and scale with the business, for this leadership role we are looking at at least 3+ years of leadership experience in complex operations.
• Practical experience in hiring and developing engineering teams, as well as enabling an inclusive and diverse culture (in a fast-paced agile environment). 
• Proven and successful experience orchestrating deployment of ML models, batch and real time
• Hands on experience with technologies such as Airflow, Docker, Kubernetes, Hadoop, Spark, Kafka
• Experience building services in a public cloud, including: distributed systems design, monitoring, deployment and 24/7 operations.
• Familiarity with ML model development frameworks and pipelines
• Great communication skills with demonstrated experience navigating a complex organization and generating buy-in for plans, and adoption of products and services. You will be a natural collaborator and communicator with the ability to influence partners and peers at different levels.
