In this role you’ll be responsible for analytics across a range of Regulatory reporting, which includes but is not limited to Finance, Customer Operations, and Regulatory Schemes.
You’ll be building tools on top of our data platform with the support of our exceptional data platform team.

What you'll do

  • You will work with various Octopus teams to ensure external reporting deadlines are met in a timely way. 
  • Lead on analysing, identifying and sourcing regulatory data, primarily Ofgem and BEIS. 
  • Build new data tools for the wider business, including:  BI dashboards (primarily Tableau), new reports, and automation pipelines. 
  • Continuously look for opportunities to make reporting improvements. 
  • Lead one off analyses and deep dives. 
  • Work closely with other parts of the data science, analytics and data platform team and be an active contributor in these discussions.

As a Regulatory Data Analyst, you will:

  • Have experience in a similar role with a proven record of managing regulatory reporting in the energy retail space is a must. 
  • A strong investigative mindset, able to search out information, sources of data or business logic. Capable of communicating with technology teams to understand data provenance.
  • Rigorous, with great attention to detail. Always sense checks their output and the output of others to spot irregularities.
  • Is able to articulate the outputs of reports in a clear, easy-to-understand way to a range of internal stakeholders.
  • Is a self-starter and is continuously looking for ways to improve and challenge the status quo.  
  • Has strong organisational skills and is able to coordinate reports across a multitude of stakeholders. 
  • With a strong technical skill set, able to individually contribute as well as lead on work streams. 
  • With experience using the technologies listed below (or similar technologies).
  • Capable of working in a fast-moving agile environment - be able to quickly assess what’s needed, prioritise tasks and deliver great solutions.

We’re looking for someone with the below technology skills:

  • Highly competent in writing performant and well documented queries in SQL (experience with both Postgres and SparkSQL would be a benefit)
  • Experience scripting in Python and using the Python data stack (Jupyter, pandas, numpy) for analysis.
  • Experience building BI visualisations and dashboards
  • Some experience using dbt for data modelling would be a bonus but not essential.
  • Some experience working in a cloud environment like AWS and using git for version control would be beneficial.
