We’re looking for an innovative data engineer to join our team in Auckland. You will be reporting to our Software Development Manager in Australia and work closely with a team of three Senior Data Engineers as well as a Senior Product Manager all located in Auckland.

Your role will be to ensure our business has the data they need available. You will collaborate with our global data and analytics teams and be responsible for looking after our ongoing ETL flows, while also investigating world-class data engineering and continually improving our data platform for our end users. 

What you’ll be doing:

  • Designing and creating ETLs (or ELTs, if you must) and high performance streaming services, monitoring and maintaining the Data infrastructure.
  • Ensuring ETL scripts in Python and SQL, along with services in Go are running smoothly.
  • Making improvements to ETL processes where needed and creating new services and ETLs in SQL and Python, and services in Go.
  • Working closely with other Analytics and Data teams to ensure they have all data they need in a suitable format.
  • Helping out the rest of the company to find their way around the data platform and educate about best ways to write SQL queries and do some basic analytics/visualisations.
  • Deploying services in our Cloud environment and making sure that our data services are healthy and data is up to date.

Please note you will take part on our “Data On Duty” roster.

What you need to bring:

Our team is a key part of the Software Engineering department, responsible for tackling the unique tasks that come with keeping Lightspeed’s Retail Platform data infrastructure, availability and reliability up and running. 

We're looking for a candidate who has experience with the following:

  • You have prior experience developing in Python, and you have experience with SQL, as well as a good understanding of how relational databases work (i.e. PostgreSQL, MySQL).
  • Exposure to using a public Cloud (AWS, GCP, Azure, or OpenStack)
  • Some experience with Python Data Science libraries
  • Comfortable working with git based projects, e.g, create branches, pull-requests etc.
  • Experience working with Bigquery, Kafka, Terraform, Cloudformation and knowledge of Go would be a bonus but is not required, we’ll teach you!.
