Google, Microsoft, Facebook, and OpenAI have all trained their premier text-models using Reddit data because we have one of the single most important corpora of conversational data in the world. We are the 6th most trafficked site on the internet and as such generate an enormous volume of content and activity on a daily basis. The decisions your team drives will influence the experience of millions of users around the world. At Reddit, Data is the lifeblood of all our decision-making.
As the Senior Engineering Manager, you will formulate, socialize, and execute on Reddit’s strategy for Data Infrastructure. You will partner with diverse stakeholders to understand Reddit’s services across all of our product lines from consumer products, to safety products, to ads. Through this you will determine a path and deliver key data technology that determines the role data plays with each service, with a focus on shepherding the quality, reliability, and accessibility of data to all partners and powering a range of services from production-facing services to BI applications. You will be a key individual in setting the data culture for Reddit.
You will be accountable for building, growing, and mentoring a world-class team of engineers to help Reddit reach its goal of bringing community and belonging to everyone.
Who you Might Be:
- Hands-on development experience building state-of-the-art data platforms using cutting-edge technologies with a focus on Big Data and real-time streaming technology stack.
- Experience supporting and growing engineering teams in data
- Proven track record of architecting large-scale data processing expertly and have experience with technologies like Kafka, Kubernetes, Flink, Terraform, and similar.
- Manage data monitoring and alerting tools to provide more visibility about data quality, scalability and performance metrics.
- Able to communicate and discuss complex topics with technical and non-technical audiences and leadership.
- Strong sense of ownership
Responsibilities:
- Build, hire, and lead a world-class team of software engineers
- Coach and mentor engineers to further their professional development
- Lead architecture and development of all components of a robust, scalable, real-time big data streaming platform
- Set and support a culture of data-informed decision making, with efficient processes and strong transparency
- Define measurable data quality metrics for foundational data & infrastructure and drive data quality across product verticals
- Build cross-functional relationships with Core Infrastructure Engineering, Security/Privacy teams and Product Engineering teams to maintain a service oriented delivery model to enable success across Reddit technical organizations
- Drive day to day execution using agile scrum development process to maintain a consistent sprint velocity
Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience building and managing engineering teams
- 4+ years of experience developing production code in a Software Engineering role
- Experience working on internal tools and vendor products at scale
- Results-oriented with a strong customer and business focus
- Entrepreneurial and self-directed, demonstrated ability to innovate and bias toward action in fast-paced environments
- Ability to communicate and discuss complex topics with technical and non-technical audiences
- Ability to tackle ambiguous and undefined problems.
- Desire to get better, help others get better, and have a positive impact within Reddit’s Engineering organization
