OVERVIEW:
The Data Visualization Analyst III will work with the Head of Data Visualization to build and operate a federated Center of Excellence (CoE) model for Data Visualization at M&T. The federated CoE integrates representatives from various BI and reporting teams associated with different business units in the bank. The CoE team defines the BI usage policy and ensures that the BI solutions are in line with strategic goals and provide a competitive edge. This makes the role critical to enabling the large business analyst community, setting the visualization standards and the efficient use of visualizations to facilitate business decisions.


POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
 

  • Visualization standards: Crafting and disseminating visualization and dashboard design standards to promote clear and effective data communication.

  • Best practice sharing: Encouraging the use of Power BI’s full suite of tools and features through workshops and showcases of successful implementations.

  • Analytics advocacy: Promoting the analytical capabilities of Power BI to solve business problems and drive decision-making at all levels of the organization.

  • Solution delivery: Developing and managing Power BI reports and dashboards, ensuring they meet the functional requirements of the business.

  • User empowerment: Facilitating a self-service BI environment by enabling users to create their own reports and dashboards within the framework of established guidelines.

  • Governance and compliance: Monitoring the use of Power BI resources, managing access permissions, and ensuring that the usage complies with data governance policies.

  • Dashboard and report development: Collaborate with the Senior Data Visualization Analyst to design and develop interactive data dashboards and reports using tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or Qlik. Ensure that visualizations effectively convey insights and are user-friendly.

  • Data Analysis and Visualization: Assist in analyzing data to identify key trends, patterns, and insights. Translate data findings into compelling visualizations that aid in understanding complex datasets. Support business insights through the development of descriptive and diagnostic reporting by selecting appropriate visuals to identify trends and outliers. Use established templates, standards, and themes to create uniform visuals for a given audience.

  • Data Gathering and Cleaning: Collect and prepare data for visualization by cleansing and transforming datasets as necessary. Ensure data accuracy and consistency.

  • User Support: Provide support to internal users in understanding and navigating data dashboards and reports. Address user inquiries and assist in troubleshooting issues.

  • Quality Assurance: Assist in conducting quality assurance and testing of data visualizations to ensure accuracy, functionality, and alignment with business requirements. Assist business partners and more experienced visualization team members in conducting user acceptance testing of data visualizations, documenting identified defects, and refining dashboards/reports.

  • Define stories and prioritize the team backlog for multiple teams working to support a single product to streamline the execution of program priorities, conform to agile practices.

  • Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies, and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite. Design, implement, maintain, and enhance internal controls to mitigate risk on an ongoing basis. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.

  • Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.

  • Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.

  • Complete other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 3 years’ related experience, or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 7 years’ higher education and/or work experience, including a minimum of 3 years’ related experience.

  • Robust understanding of full-cycle product development within an Agile framework, including Product Increment (PI) planning, managing Jira boards, backlogs, features, stories etc.

  • Knowledge and application of data architecture and BI concepts.

  • Hands-on experience with developing dashboards and reports using at least one of the following BI tools: Microsoft Power BI (preferred), Tableau and Qlik.

  • Intermediate knowledge of data visualization approaches and best practices.

  • Hands-on experience with using SQL to analyze, extract and transform data.

IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED:

  • Project Management Skills: Strong project management and communication skills to effectively lead and influence cross-functional teams.

  • Passion for Data Excellence: A commitment to maintaining the highest data quality and governance standards to ensure the BI CoE’s success.

  • Understanding of specific domains as required by assignment.

  • Proven experience using change management best practices for adoption of product changes within a specific user group.

M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $91,061.75 - $151,769.58 Annual (USD). The successful candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation.
