Job SummaryPeopleFun is seeking a Principal Data Engineer to contribute to the building and maintenance of our data ecosystem. This person will work on a small team of other data engineers to design flexible and scalable solutions, in addition to supporting the needs of multiple live and developing games. This person should have strong technical skills, experience in applying engineering best practices, and comfort diving into unfamiliar data platforms and products as needed.
Responsibilities
- Create and maintain data pipelines connecting a variety of sources to BigQuery
- Optimize data jobs for cost, scalability, and performance
- Work with product analysts to transform their requirements into accurate data models
- Collaborate with central platform team to anticipate data support for new features
- Enhance monitoring on data quality and systems to ensure data trust
- Handle live ops to ensure data reliability
- Maintain health of our Cloud Composer instances, adjusting configurations as needed
- Provide code reviews and technical guidance to the rest of the team and analysts
- Improve deployment testing practices to increase our team’s efficiency and accuracy
- Use your experience and curiosity around data advancements to proactively suggest improvements to our ecosystem
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Data Analytics, Data Science, or other related fields with a focus on engineering
- 6+ years of professional experience in the data engineering field
- Extensive experience in SQL and Python (BigQuery preferred)
- Extensive experience in developing and maintaining ETL processes that are robust, scalable, and flexible
- Extensive experience in validating and debugging to ensure high quality data
- Experience working with external data providers/sources via API, raw data drops, and other protocols
- Experience maintaining the health of a managed Airflow service or similar
- Experience designing, monitoring, and scaling high volume event-based pipelines
Preferred Qualifications
- Preferred experience with GCP ecosystem, e.g. Dataflow, Pub/Sub, Cloud Composer
- Comfort working directly with product teams to determine high-value solutions
- Self-motivated team player that brings excitement and enthusiasm to work each day
- Familiarity with the mobile games and video games industry
