New York, NY; Seattle, WA; Bay Area, CA; Austin, TX, Remote - Full time

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR

We’re looking for an experienced applied data scientist to join our Data Science & Machine Learning Team!  You’re passionate about finding patterns, trends, and opportunities to bring a better experience to our customers, curious about what is driving KPIs, and insightful in your approach. You thoughtfully bring data science-based insights into the conversation about our customers and pursue improvements proactively, while building on shared cross-functional knowledge and expertise.  As a Senior Data Scientist, you will up-level the pursuit and impact of applied data science at BARK – from the creation of “surprise and delight” personalization experiences for our pups and pup parents, to ensuring efficient management of our inventory and supply chain.

KEY DUTIES

  • Combine multiple data sources to create a clear and cohesive picture of our customers.
  • Collaborate with business partners to make meaningful segments to target users based on shared preferences or behaviors.
  • Collaborate with Planning, Sourcing, Product Design, Merchandising, Machine Learning, Customer Service, and Engineering to create meaningful and predictive feature sets for our dog products.
  • Create well-organized datasets and analyses for our dog products that span multiple business lines and dog demographics.
  • Work with Box, Retail, Marketplaces, Product, Eats, Bright Dental, Tech Product, Machine Learning, Customer Service, Marketing, and Licensing/Partnerships to test hypotheses, answer nuanced questions, make strategic decisions, and create efficiencies.
  • Use available data to size and project opportunities to improve the business or customer experience.

EXPERIENCE

  • You have 4+ years experience and a demonstrable track record of delivering applied machine learning or data science capabilities in consumer-facing and/or enterprise applications
  • You have independently prototyped, optimized, validated, managed, operated and updated machine learning and statistical models
  • You can demonstrate knowledge of statistical inference, experiment design, probability, sampling methodologies, regression, classification, clustering, data mining, time series analysis, and causal inference analysis.
  • You have a strong working knowledge of Python-based machine learning frameworks and the data and computation management mechanisms that surround them in a cloud setting
  • You have exceptional communication skills that can be delivered in the context of your audience from deep science to business decision-makers
  • You possess strong interpersonal skills and an ability to influence others around you towards data-driven business goals
  • You can quickly pivot and act with agility as dictated by the needs of the business
  • You have an advanced appreciation of canines.

This position is a full-time position. It is located on-site at our offices in New York, NY, Columbus, OH, or  remotely in Seattle, WA, Bay Area, CA and Austin, TX. We offer health insurance for both you and your pup, 401k, wonderful team lunches, cold brew on tap, and a dog to pet anytime you wish.

ABOUT BARK

Here at BARK, we love dogs and their people. We’re looking to make all dogs happy throughout the entire world (we’re not kidding). Think Disney for dogs -- we make magic for dogs and their people through our products, events, and experiences.

Our ambition level is high, the opportunity is huge, and our love for dogs is through the roof! We launched in 2011 with BarkBox, a monthly-themed subscription of all-natural treats and clever toys. Since then, we've shipped more than 70 million toys and treats to the dogs across the world and use all of that direct customer feedback to inform new initiatives and ways to make magic between dogs and their people. We’ve since expanded into other offerings as well, as we aim to become THE Dog Company for every family with a four-legged, belly-scratch-loving, interspecies family member.
