Lead Data Engineer/Architect

Data sits at the core of our ambitions at Ember & we’ve only unlocked a tiny fraction of its potential to date. We are looking for a superstar data engineer who can be both hands-on; building out solid data foundations (warehousing, dashboard-ing, ensuring that the right data is piped to the right people at the right time) and act more in that strategic capacity going forward; ultimately leading this critical initiative as we scale. 🚀🚀🚀

The role will include working with the Heads of Product, Growth & Customer Experience to both identify & unlock how we can best utilise data, as well as being hands-on; ensuring the data we do have is clean, accurate, compliant and accessible to maximise its effectiveness.

Responsibilities

• Work with the Heads of Product, Growth & Customer Experience to both identify & unlock how we can best utilise data.
• Lead a small data team consisting of yourself and one Data Analyst
• Build our Data Warehouse (we use BigQuery)
• Code. As the sole data engineer in the team, you’ll be expected to be hands-on to help us deliver (we use Python deployed on Google Cloud Functions)
• Ensure the data we do have is clean, accurate, compliant and accessible to maximise it’s effectiveness both in product + through acquisition
• Increase understanding across the organisation through data visualisation

Requirements

• 3+ years of industry experience in the field
• Prior experience building a data warehouse from scratch
• Strong software development skills with familiarity with best practices
• Strong industry experience with both Python & SQL
• An eye for an opportunity & a deep understanding of where data can be used to enhance both product experience and efficiency in acquisition
• Excellent communication skills
• Familiarity with cloud platform offerings (we use Google Cloud Platform)
• Familiarity with customer data platforms (we use Segment)
• Prior experience working within a scale-up in the SaaS space is beneficial
• Experience developing and deploying machine learning models is beneficial
