Lead Data Engineer

As the Lead of the Data Engineering team and working closely with your counterparts in the data ecosystem and software development, you will be expected to lead a substantial data transformation, supported by a cross-functional team rooted on a product driven mindset. Responsibilities of the role

• Providing technical and people leadership for a team of engineers, fostering a culture of support and collaboration in the team and across the broader product-development organization
• Hands-on participation in Engineering tasks such as coding, peer reviews, building automation tests
• Acting as initial point of contact for your team and facilitating the inclusion of your engineers as required
• Working closely with Product Managers and Architects to align on your team’s capacity and discuss and agree on solutions
• Facilitating continuous improvement in the team by reviewing performance metrics and ensuring improvements identified from retrospectives are actioned
• Communicating technical vision, roadmap, progress and knowledge in your area
• Hiring and retaining top engineering talent; fostering a high-performance culture in your team
• Proactive enhancement and support of the Data architecture to minimize technical debt and maximize agility

Requirements

• 3+ years of relevant experience (Data Transformations, ETL/ELT, Data Modeling in the cloud); Experience of working in a high-volume FinTech business; Diploma, B-Tech or bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or informatics; or similar combination of skills and education
• People management & team leadership skills — you have experience hiring and leading a high-performing data engineering/data science team across time zones
• Track record of driving the highest level of engineering standards: architecture, coding, processes, and working practices.
• Strong SQL knowledge (you would rate your SQL skills >8/10)
• Product mindset — you care about the product you build, how it will be used by other people, and appreciate the importance of unlocking customer value at the earliest opportunity
• Great communication skills and positive personality to work in a team.
• A desire to join a fast-growing global tech organization and make a real impact on its success by leveraging your deep technical knowledge in engineering and agile practices
• People leader with ability to build capability through developing people.
• Capable of providing reports, presentations, making risks transparent and driving communication effectively within the team
