So if you love sports and their community building potential, or building cool products is your sport, GameChanger is the team for you. We are a remote-first, dynamic tech company based in New York City, and we are solving some of the biggest challenges in youth sports today.

The Position:

GameChanger’s Data Engineering (DE) team is responsible for acquiring & delivering high-quality data and tooling on a reliable and scalable platform. This team is foundational to the Data and Analytics organizations’ overall mission of empowering everyone at GC to drive meaningful outcomes using data.

As the DE Manager, you will lead the team in ingesting new data sources, optimizing pipelines, maintaining our data warehouse, platforms and systems, and developing a roadmap for scaling our infrastructure to handle GameChanger’s rapidly growing data needs. Additionally, you will also help define data governance and security frameworks and work to implement those policies across the company.

An excellent communicator, you’ll provide the vision, priorities, and drive the day-to-day work for the team. You will be a leader, mentor, and hands-on technical contributor when needed. You’ll work closely with other data teams and cross-functional stakeholders across the company to understand their needs and build systems to unlock operational efficiencies or analytic insights. This role will report to the Senior Analytics Manager.

What You’ll Do:

  • Work on building a distributed & remote team with high internal trust and performance.

  • Act as a player/coach: be a technical contributor as needed - this will allow you to stay close to the details of the work that the team is doing & effectively lead the team technically.

  • Help your data engineers gain technical breadth and depth, improve judgment, and develop into tomorrow’s leaders.

    • For example, by providing timely and actionable feedback through weekly one-on-ones or ad-hoc, thoughtful and timely design and code reviews, participating in on-call rotations, conducting pre- & post-mortems, etc.

  • Drive the collection of new data, optimizing existing sources, scaling our data platforms, pipelines and tools, and expanding our governance and monitoring capabilities.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional peers to define & scope data needs, build and execute on a technical roadmap that supports company objectives and maximizes future execution velocity.

    • For example, migrating to Snowflake unlocks faster integrations for 3rd party platforms like Braze, Kubit, Statsig.

  • Promote responsible data practices across the data org and across GameChanger, for example helping to set and align around data governance and privacy.

  • Keep up to date on industry latest trends and developments in data engineering. Continually drive the team towards best practices/industry standards.

Who You Are:

We’re looking for someone who is interested in developing a highly impactful team and has a strong technical background.

  • At least 2 years of experience managing data engineering teams: You find fulfillment in mentoring others, cultivating growth, and fostering excellence within your team

  • At least 5 years of data engineering IC experience, including as a technical lead

  • Experience developing production-grade Python code

  • Expertise with SQL and cloud data warehousing in Snowflake

  • Comfort working and leading in a Lean and Agile environment

  • Energized by the pace and dynamic environment of an actively growing and maturing start-up

  • Enjoy working cross-functionally with other teams, learning their missions and how you can empower them to make data driven decisions

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and an ability to articulate technical concepts clearly and succinctly

Bonus Points:

  • Experience working with Kafka, Scala, Typescript, and Node.js.

  • Experience with dbt.
