Location: Remote - Germany, Spain, UK, Ireland.  Relocation available for successful candidate if located outside of the EU, providing visa status is achievable.

The FREE NOW Data Platform team is looking for a new colleague ,who is excited about working on a modern data platform in an innovative mobility as a service company. The Data Platform Team operates remotely from across Germany and we welcome applications from candidates who are able to open to working remotely from Germany, UK, Ireland; and we actively encourage applicants who may require visa sponsorship.

The open data platform enables various teams across the company to ingest data of various scales, transform them into useful datasets and make them digestible through analytical tools. We are improving the data platform nonstop to deliver the best user experience possible. As a part of the Core Technology team of FREE NOW, you are operating inside the heart of our entire application and closely collaborate with backend developers and platform engineers.

What you will do:

• Design, build and extend a large scale data platform that enables data engineers, -scientists and -analysts to deliver amazing data products
• Automate everything! Make the data platform reliable and secure by following best practices such as the “Infrastructure as Code” principle
• Support teams company-wide to make the most out of our platform through monitoring systems and know-how
• Keep our data secure. Find and solve security concerns in our data systems

Your profile:

• You are qualified with distributed systems (f.e. Kafka, Hadoop, Presto) and understand the underlying principles
• You have programming experience in at least one modern programming language. (preferably Scala, Python or Java)
• You feel comfortable with cloud environments like AWS or GCP
• You have worked directly with technologies like Airflow, Terraform and Kubernetes
• You are excited about writing clean code and understand the balance between ideal solutions and pragmatic approaches
• You are reading about new trends and developments in the data world and are keen on evaluating new technologies
• You might be experienced in developing a strategy for data architecture and data management strategy

The interview process will be in 4 stages and should be completed in less than 2 weeks:

1st - 30 mins Interview with one of our Talent Acquisition partners - this will be a get to meet you interview, sharing more details about you and discussing the role and FREE NOW in general

2nd – Tech Challenge. Take-home challenge and a chance for you to show us what makes you so good at what you do

3rd –  60 mins Challenge Review. The Engineering Manager will review your test challenge with you, looking at ways of improving it, challenging the decisions, giving you room to explain the rationale behind them. We are a non-egocentric organization; we expect to be challenged all the time.

4th – 90mins Meet the Team / Knowledge sharing.  A chance for you to meet your new colleagues and also for us to share what we do with you including giving you an insight into our projects, sharing some code with you and letting you get a glimpse of our world and what to expect when you join.
