Working at Atlassian
Atlassian can hire people in any country where we have a legal entity. Assuming you have eligible working rights and a sufficient time zone overlap with your team, you can choose to work remotely or return to an office as they reopen (unless it’s necessary for your role to be performed in the office). Interviews and onboarding are conducted virtually, a part of being a distributed-first company.
With a sufficient timezone overlap with the team, we’re able to hire eligible candidates for this role from any location in Australia and/or New Zealand. If this sparks your interest, apply today and chat with our friendly Recruitment team further.
Do you have a passion for crafting products and insights with data? Do you love finding the next big ‘aha’ insight which changes the way a business thinks about its customers? Would you like to drive real change with global impact at the HQ of the world's hottest SaaS company?
Atlassian is looking for a Data Scientist to join our Customer Analytics team in Sydney, Australia. We’re seeking someone with strong business acumen, creativity, hustle, and analytical thinking, who is passionate about applying these skills to build data products from scratch that drive a massive company transformation.
You’ll be partnered with our Ecosystem teams responsible for our Developer and Partner experience. Our 2nd and 3rd-party developers are what power the Atlassian Marketplace, which recently exceeded 2 billion in sales! Ensuring that these folks can rely on our platform, have the tools they need to innovate, and have niches where they can build viable businesses are big priorities for these teams.
You’ll also be a valued member of the Atlassian-wide Analytics and Data Science team. You will have the opportunity to work alongside and learn from the best as you go about solving problems for your stakeholders.

In this role, you'll get to

  • Use bleeding-edge platforms and rich datasets to build data layers, apps and dashboards from scratch
  • Earn “trusted advisor” relationships with senior stakeholders, and drive decisions that impact millions of users
  • Collaborate with partner businesses, product managers, designers, research teams, data engineers and other data scientists - there will be lots of perspectives to learn from
  • Introduce experimentation to a new set of stakeholders, leaning on support and best practices from our centre of excellence
  • Innovate and invest in your own learning and developments, through frequent company-wide hack-a-thons, innovation weeks, and generous educational opportunities
  • Foster a world-class analytics culture, leading by example, through blogging, speaking, and the creation of self-service tools, to make a lasting change in how your partners use data to make decisions

On your first day, we expect you to have

  • 2+ years of experience applying your analytics skills and running experiments
  • Experience in using statistics as part of your role (e.g. regressions, A/B tests, forecasting)
  • Expertise in SQL and proficiency in another data programming language (Python, R, etc.)
  • Proficiency in at least one visualisation tool (e.g. Tableau, Python, R-Shiny)
  • An agile development mindset, appreciating the benefit of constant iteration and improvement. Said another way, we want you to have a high bar for output quality, and be able to trade off “having something now" vs. "better in the future"
  • a strong ability to communicate demonstrated through explaining complex concepts to diverse audiences and crafting compelling stories

It's great, but not required if you have

  • Experience contributing to the broader data community, through meetups, conference attendance, open-source library contribution, or other roles
  • Previously worked in global teams and high-growth companies
  • Experience developing apps
  • An advanced degree in Computer Science, Math or Statistics
  • An understanding of the SaaS development, business model and metrics
  • Experience in customer analytics, particularly analytical insight into how product changes impact customer and user happiness and engagement
  • Experience in building ETL pipelines using any tools or scripting languages
