THE ROLE

Sotheby's Data Team is empowering the organization using deep insights that matter. We are seeking a talented and motivated leader to accelerate our efforts to drive trust, adoption, and democratization of insights. This role  will work closely with Engineering, Product, Operations, and Research teams to build systems of intelligence empowering product development while uncovering business opportunities from data. A successful candidate will be both technically strong and business savvy while being able to provide great leadership and mentorship to this team and champion & adopt scalable workflows while streamlining processes.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Define the technical data architecture and strategy for the business intelligence team
  • Design, develop and deploy data warehouse solutions for the business and BI team 
  • Create blueprints for data management systems to integrate, centralize protect and maintain data systems
  • Drive BI initiatives focused on data preparations, data integration, data exploration, ETL development, data warehousing and advanced data modeling techniques.
  • Collaborate with product, data science, marketing, and engineering teams to create a roadmap for BI and data teams supporting business needs in alignment with our priorities and OKR’s
  • Partner closely with leadership and business stakeholders as a trusted and influential evangelist to identify important questions, define key metrics, cultivating a data driven decision making culture
  • Design and implement analytics solutions that enable consistency & scalability with cross-functional teams
  • Own business metrics for the business, while monitoring changes in KPIs that impact business performance
  • Define, prioritize, deliver and communicate metrics & analyses across the business, including senior executives

IDEAL EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCIES

  • Degree in business, computer science, statistics, applied mathematics or other quantitative field
  • 3+ years of experience as a data architect 
  • Deep knowledge of data models, experimental design, and execution
  • 5+ years of experience providing business insight support for the executive team
  • Focus on data driven decision making and learning by experimentation
  • Experience leading complex technical projects with engineer partners (engineers and data engineers)
  • Experience in both internal and external storytelling and executive presentations
  • Expertise with analytics tools, data visualization, SQL, R, or Python, Databricks as applied to analytics
  • Practical experience with Data Warehouse technologies, Hive, Spark, Pig, Jira, AWS, GCP, and Big Query 
  • Strong expertise with Excel, BI tools and ERP systems (i.e. Tableau, Looker, Alteryx, & SAP)
  • Strong ability to communicate complicated and nuanced insights in accessible language to relevant stakeholders
