WHY WE NEED YOU

The Lead Data Engineer will be leading the Data Team as part of the Machine Intelligence & Analytics group, within the Software Engineering department. You will work closely with other engineering leads to develop, deliver, and maintain data driven products and backend analytics platforms for the discovery, interpretation, and communication of meaningful patterns in data. In addition, you will lead the Data Team in developing and maintaining the infrastructure to collect and transform raw operational data to feed to the downstream Command and Control systems.

 

Ultimately, you will design reliable, scalable, real-time (or near-real time) applications that make Virgin Hyperloop a reality. We are seeking candidates with various levels of experience to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals at our Los Angeles facility.


WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Lead the design, development, testing, and deployment of real-time data infrastructure and processing workflows to support live Command and Control operations.
  • Establish technical roadmap, grow, and lead a team for successful execution.
  • Architect and build robust data pipelines and ensure consistency and availability of data ingestion and real-time data insights.
  • Perform ETL operations on large datasets from many complex, heterogeneous data sources.
  • Collaborate with product, software and hardware engineering, and DevOps teams in a fast-changing environment to align roadmaps, delivery dates, and integration efforts.
  • Communicate, present, and defend opinions concerning physical and logical architecture in a productive and diplomatic fashion.
  • Champion processes and procedures across the organization. 


WHAT YOU’VE DONE

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a highly quantitative discipline
  • Extensive professional experience (5+ years) working in analytics, data science, data engineering, or software development
  • Extensive experience in designing, building, and maintaining data pipeline systems
  • Strong coding experience in server-side programming languages (Python, Scala, Go, Java, or R) as well as database languages (SQL)
  • Strong knowledge in software engineering principles
  • Experience with data technologies and concepts such as NiFi, Spark, Hadoop, Airflow, Kafka, RDBMS, and Columnar databases
  • Working knowledge of Docker and GIT
  • Agile, fast prototyping skills, including feature integration during all cycles of development.
  • Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

NICE TO HAVE

  • MS Degree in Computer Science or equivalent field
  • Hands on experience with cloud computing services environments and DevOps tools and experience building stream-processing systems is a plus
  • Experience integrating with APIs
  • Domain expertise and knowledge of transportation, logistics, and autonomous systems

  • Authorized to work in the U.S
