Position Summary:This position will report to the Engineering Director - Software and Algorithms and will work closely with the program management and software development teams. The Senior Data Scientist candidate will be responsible for mentoring the data science team and for design, development and (unit and functional) test of application-specific quantification solutions for our mass and optical spectrometry-based instruments and its vertical applications in semiconductor and industrial processing and medical applications, contributing to product roadmaps, and supporting new product definition and introduction.
Responsibilities: ● Build computational software solutions for our instruments by studying information needs; confer with users; study systems flow, data usage and work processes; investigate problem areas; follow the software development lifecycle● Develop software solutions/improve documentation to demonstrate solutions using flow flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, charts, code comments and clear code●  Work on new product development and maintain existing products●  Conduct and participate in design review meetings of hardware/software/product to identify the impact on software development and provide feedback●  Root-cause problems, assess risks, identify issues and solutions to achieve project objectives●  Understand product goals, ensures cross-team collaboration & realize consistent high-quality solutions for all deliverables●  Plan and estimate work for feature development●  Grow engineering teams by interviewing and hiring●  Mentor junior and mid-level engineers by providing advice, coaching and educational opportunities●  Update job knowledge by studying state-of-the-art development tools, programming techniques and computing equipment; participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; and participating in professional organizations.
What you’ll be doing:●        Design, code, test (unit & functional) and maintain modules of the software●        Demonstrate that your ideas ‘work’ - implement your ideas on data●        Strive towards the most ‘elegant’ approach to a solution●        Implement software engineering best practices and discipline for fast and reliable development of an ‘elegant’ software product●        Anything else you think (and demonstrate) you can contribute to, can be yours! Requirements/Qualifications:●        Bachelors or Masters in CS / Electronics from a premier institute. ●        Solid design, excellent programming and debugging skills on a Unix-based OS (Ubuntu, Fedora, OSX) and fluent with a DVCS like Git.●        Programming Languages: C++, Python ●        Excellent communication: verbal, written and diagrammatic●        Demonstrated leadership traits●        Deal-clinchers (any 1, preferably any 2, more the better!) o        Skilled with python packages: scikit-learn, pandas, numpy and scipy o        Understanding of common algorithms and their application in solving real-world problems o        Strong mathematical background in linear algebra, optimization and/or descriptive & inferential statistics o        Understanding of machine learning concepts like generalization, regularization, linear models, neural network and expertise with building systems based on machine learning techniques
