Supernal is at the forefront of creating emerging mobility solutions that will foster the development of human-centered cities. We are designing a completely new electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft tailored to the mobility needs of future cities. What we do:

Supernal’s Cyber Systems Research team is seeking an innovative and result-oriented research engineer with both solid knowledge and a keen interest in taking fundamental research into new product innovation. We expect our Computer Vision engineers to understand innovative research and apply it to solve deep technical challenges by distilling research insights into application. As a part of our team, you will both perform experiments and play a key role in developing and scaling technology to enable the Supernal mission.

What you can do:

  • Design, implement and validate prototype computer vision algorithms for tasks such as object tracking, multi-view geometry estimation, image enhancement, SLAM
  • Lead a prototype project to integrate visual sensor data for positioning and mapping
  • Lead Supernal’s University Center Project
  • Design, implementation and evaluation of computer vision and machine learning algorithms as needed for detection, recognition, classification, and semantic understanding
  • Develop toolbox for visual navigation and visual DAA methods and algorithms
  • Writing, editing, and revising detailed technical design documents to accurately describe the technical details of the components to be developed
  • Able to publish white papers on behalf of Supernal R&D team
  • Explain and document major design decisions and their rationales to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Collaborate with researchers, other developers, and the product team to take research ideas into well-thought-out product features.

What you can contribute:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a related field
  • A minimum of 5-8 years' experience with domain expertise in Computer Vision, Computer Graphics, High-Performance Computing (HPC), or Machine Learning (An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered for this role)
  • Strong Python and C/C++ implementation experience on safety-critical real-time systems
  • Solid understanding of low-level graphics' programming (i.e. OpenCL, CUDA, GLSL)
  • Experience working with deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, MxNet, ONNX, and Caffe
  • Knowledge of professional software engineering practices including coding standards, code reviews, version control, and testing
  • Experience with embedded systems or other highly resource constrained computing environments
  • Knowledge of drones, autonomous vehicles, aerospace or mobile robotics
  • Understanding of cameras, optics, image acquisition, or photography
  • Ability to work effectively as part of the development team with minimal direction; and all other software development tasks as assigned
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proactive delivery of communication and follow up
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Must have the ability to independently prioritize and accomplish work within time constraints
  • Self-motivated and forward-thinking personality

You may also be able to contribute:

  • Master's Degree or PhD preferred
  • Understanding of AI/ML systems, techniques, and implementation alongside or as part of a larger computer vision system is a plus
  • Experience with ISO 26262, DO-178C, or other safety-related software and product development processes is desired
