The opportunity

Are you working on data science problems but worried that your solutions may never be productionized? Do you want exposure to clients across a range of different domains? Perhaps you're looking for new and exciting ways to apply your technical skills to make a big and positive impact. If you are keen to accelerate your career in data science and start working on unsolved, intellectually challenging business problems, then look no further. Our teams primarily work remotely in our virtual hubs, but do have periodic in-office days to collaborate and socialize, plus stay connected virtually through bootcamps, trivia, coffee catch ups and more

Can you share a little more on some of Quantium’s projects?

At Quantium, we seek out complex, technical problems. We leverage extremely large and often disparate datasets in the retail, CPG and banking industries to solve problems for our clients that have never been solved previously. These include business problems like optimizing product offerings, personalizing customer interactions, selecting best locations for stores/branches, improving inventory forecasting and pricing for some of the biggest companies in the world.

These will typically be end-to-end data science solutions, deploying complex models that power decision-engines our clients deploy into their business processes. We work in fast-paced environments on transformational projects with tight timeframes, often teaming up in agile delivery squads. Our projects are diverse, and our solutions have a big impact on our clients’ businesses, shaping the direction of their industries and the experience of the customers they touch

What will I be doing as a data scientist at Quantium?

Many things! Your role will likely evolve as we continue to grow but at its core, the Data Scientist is a technical role that delivers high quality end-to-end analytical support across multiple projects, as a member of a project team.

This will see you helping develop and deliver high quality data science solutions for our clients, from data preparation and cleaning, through to deploying and productionising models that are embedded in client systems.

As we’re a Consultancy, you’ll get the opportunity to work on projects across different industries and partner closely with clients to understand their needs and help transform their questions and problems into analytical solutions.

What tools will I be using?

Keeping in mind that we always ensure the tools we are using are fit for purpose, for our current projects, we are typically using Spark / Scala or Teradata for data preparation and Spark / Scala, R and/or Python for advanced analytics and machine learning use cases.

Why should I be excited about this opportunity?

This is a unique opportunity to join an exciting, high growth environment where each person can contribute and have a big impact on the success of the team, whilst knowing that you have global capability (proven products and solutions built over 19 years!) to back you.

What is the team culture like?

We are a team of diverse and fun data scientists, consultants and sales professionals working in an environment where colleagues quickly become friends. Working in small, cross-functional project teams, you will have lots of opportunity to learn from senior leaders and share your learning with the team too.

OK, this is all sounding great. But do you have a bullet point list so I can see if I meet the requirements of this opportunity?

We know people are not bullet points but here we go:

  • Approximately 2+ years of hands-on experience in a highly technical analytics environment, carrying out data science work with large, complex datasets.
  • Experience working withing Consulting or retail, CPG or banking is advantageous but not essential
  • You should ideally have experience in building models end-to-end (at least a handful through to production in a commercial environment), using techniques such as GBM/XG Boost, GLM (logistic regression), Clustering, Neural nets/deep Learning /deep nets, Multivariate regression etc
  • An understanding of the importance of strong data interrogation skills to achieve optimal outcomes
  • A degree in a quantitative discipline e.g. actuarial studies, mathematics / statistics, engineering etc
  • Experience in using at least one of Spark / Scala, Python or R and the desire to learn new languages and techniques
  • Ideally you will have experience working closely with business stakeholders or clients, partnering with them to deliver end-to-end project solutions. The ability to clearly communicate technical concepts to a non-technical audience is key

More reasons to get excited:
