We are looking for an outstanding manager to join the band and lead the data science team working on Spotify’s content recommendations, supporting our global editorial teams across music and podcasts, as well as product strategy teams collaborating with R&D.

What You'll Do:

  • Manage and mentor a team of data scientists, as part of the Content Analytics group. Enable your reports to achieve their career goals, notably by tailoring the team’s roadmap of projects to each individuals’ strengths and areas of progression
  • Manage a roadmap of long term projects, such as improving how editors around the world find and promote exciting new music, or influencing product development for music and podcast recommendations
  • Regularly present to senior management. Communicate data-driven insights and recommendations to non-technical audiences, through clear visualizations and data storytelling
  • Become the company’s central point of accountability for analysis, data tools and datasets related to Spotify’s editorial recommendations. Act as a trusted advisor to Spotify’s global leadership of editorial, as well as international editorial teams around the world
  • Act as a key intermediary and “translator” between the editorial group and our engineering organization working on personalization. Craft convincing data storytelling that drives collaboration between both groups. Influence how human cultural expertise can meet machine learning to craft the best music and podcast recommendations in the world
  • Advance the use of data science within your team, from robust AB-testing to causal inferences and data visualizations
  • Mentor both junior and senior team members in their own personal journey with data science
  • Advance data literacy with Spotify’s content teams. Run regular training sessions for non-technical stakeholders, making sure the suite of data tools owned by your team keeps driving decisions at scale

Who you Are:

  • You have experience managing a team of Data Scientists or Analysts
  • You are passionate about music and popular culture in general. Previous experience in music or podcasts is a strong plus for this role. Other media, entertainment, or technology experience is also valued
  • You are an effective communicator. You focus just as much on how you deliver your findings, as you do on the technical craft of uncovering new insights
  • You have a degree in a quantitative field, such as Computer Science/Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics; advanced degree is desirable
  • 5+ years of relevant experience analyzing complex data with SQL, Python, and/or R
  • Experience building data visualizations and dashboards (e.g. Tableau or similar BI solution).
  • Modeling and statistical knowledge is valued (e.g. forecasting, AB-testing, or feature engineering for machine learning)
  • Experience architecting and scheduling datasets is valued
