As a Research Scientist on this team, you will be tackling some of the hardest problems in advertising; measuring ads incrementality, providing estimated counterfactuals and predicting the success of advertising strategies. You and you team will develop state of the art causal learning, deep learning, and predictive techniques to help marketers understand and optimize their spend.
Measurement and Data Science (MADS) develops machine learning algorithms and high performance, petabyte-scale distributed systems to deliver campaign reporting for Amazon Advertising. Our innovative engineers and machine learning scientists sit at the intersection of two vast data sources -leveraging retail data to optimize advertising and measuring advertising impact on shopping events. We deliver the campaign reporting for all of our advertising businesses through a reporting API servicing millions of queries per day, utilizing billions of richly decorated events summarized in minutes utilizing the latest big data and streaming technologies. The team develops measurement services, helps Amazon as an advertiser and our advertising customers better understand the impact of all their advertising on Amazon shopping events. We work in some of the most exciting computer science domains. We are managing massive scale streaming systems, applying machine learning and data science expertise using Hadoop, Elastic MapReduce, and Spark to drive optimizations and insights while building front-ends to help internal and external advertisers to deeply understand their audiences and market segments. We develop new means to measure activity with Amazon services and devices as well as the metrics and tools to understand campaign performance. We are creating the cloud to allow advertisers and their agency or measurement partners to build new solutions in Amazon Web Services to improve their ad campaign performance and enrich their understanding of their customers

As Research Scientist on this team, you will:
- Drive Machine Learning projects that have a high degree of ambiguity, scale, complexity.
- Perform hands-on analysis and modeling of enormous data sets to develop insights that increase traffic monetization and merchandise sales, without compromising the shopper experience.
- Build machine learning models, perform proof-of-concept, experiment, and optimize models.
- Run A/B experiments, gather data, and perform statistical analysis.
- Establish scalable, efficient, automated processes for large-scale data analysis, machine-learning model development, model validation and serving.
- Research new and innovative machine learning approaches.

Basic Qualifications
- Experience investigating the feasibility of applying scientific principles and concepts to business problems and products
- MS degree with at least 1 year of research experience in a quantitative field or PHD in a quantitative field
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, or related quantitative field.
- Published research work in academic conferences or industry circles.
- Experience in building large-scale machine-learning models and infra for online recommendation, ads ranking, personalization, or search, etc.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills with non-technical and technical audiences.
- Experience working with large real-world data sets and building scalable models from big data.
- Thinks strategically, but stays on top of tactical execution.
- Exhibits excellent business judgment; balances business, product, and technology very well.
- Experience in computational advertising.
