Seniors, Community and Social Services provides supports for seniors, families and communities, and helps Albertans access disability services, financial supports, affordable housing, services for the homeless, and other social-based programs. The Digital Business Solutions Unit is responsible for affordable housing options and services for Albertans most in need, and helping Alberta's aging population with supports that are inclusive and responsive to the diverse needs of seniors to lead healthy lives in their homes and communities.  The unit is also responsible for maintaining comprehensive information management strategies, documenting divisional processes, and fostering knowledge management strategies.
 

Role Responsibilities

Are you a skilled Data Analyst looking to contribute to impactful initiatives within the Housing Division at Seniors, Community and Social Services (SCSS)? Join our team as a Data Analyst and play a pivotal role in leveraging data to support evidence-based decision-making and strategic planning within the ministry.

 

As a Data Analyst at Housing, you will oversee data analysis and reporting activities, ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of data related to various programs and initiatives. Your role will involve analyzing complex datasets, identifying trends and patterns, and providing actionable insights to support program management and policy development.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Lead data analysis efforts to extract insights and trends from large datasets related to Housing’s operating and capital programs.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand data requirements and develop data-driven solutions to address program objectives.
  • Oversee data collection, validation, and cleansing processes to ensure data accuracy and integrity.
  • Develop and maintain data models, databases, and dashboards to facilitate data visualization and reporting.
  • Provide guidance and supervision to junior data analysts and support staff, ensuring the quality and timeliness of deliverables.
  • Lead the development and implementation of data quality assurance measures and compliance protocols.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to communicate data findings, recommendations, and insights.
  • Stay informed about emerging trends, best practices, and technologies in data analysis and reporting.
  • Support the development and implementation of strategic initiatives and performance metrics within SCSS.
  • Collaborate with the Business Intelligence and Data Analytics Team to drive strategic decision-making and improve program outcomes.
  • Develop training materials and provide training sessions to staff on data analysis tools and techniques.
  • Act as a subject matter expert on data analysis methodologies, tools, and best practices within the ministry.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements for this role: 

 

  • Degree in Data Science, Information Systems, Computer Science, Business Analytics or related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in data analysis, including proficiency in analyzing large datasets, conducting data cleansing and validation, and deriving actionable insights from data.

 

Equivalencies may be considered on the basis of:

 

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

 

The following experience would be considered an asset:

 

  • Proficiency in data visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or QlikView, enabling effective communication of insights and trends to stakeholders.
  • Experience with programming languages commonly used in data analysis, such as Python or R, for data manipulation, statistical analysis, and machine learning tasks.
  • Familiarity with SQL databases and querying languages for data extraction and manipulation.
  • Knowledge of data mining and machine learning techniques, allowing for the development of predictive models and advanced analytics solutions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify trends, patterns, and anomalies in complex datasets.
  • Experience with data cleansing, transformation, and integration processes to ensure data quality and consistency.
  • Understanding of statistical concepts and techniques for hypothesis testing, regression analysis, and data modeling.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for effectively presenting findings and recommendations to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience working in interdisciplinary teams and collaborating with colleagues from various backgrounds to achieve common goals.
  • Continuous learning mindset, with a willingness to stay updated on emerging trends, tools, and techniques in the field of data analysis and analytics.
