Canva IT group manages relationships with internal customers (Canva Specialities) and oversees the complex series of technologies that support Canva’s business operations. The goal of an Analytics Engineer in IT is to build foundational data capabilities that underpin Canva’s business operations supporting growth, and design holistic data solutions that empower Canvanauts to discover insights from business systems and internal applications.
The Analytics Engineer applies business modelling, software engineering, and data management best practices on a daily basis. Their purpose is to establish, maintain and operate the data platform to deliver well-defined, transformed, tested, documented, and code-reviewed data sets. 
We handle billions of rows and petabytes of data from hundreds of different sources - including events, databases, and third-party systems. We work in collaboration with multiple teams and stakeholders to support their decision-making process. Responsibilities

  • Design and build out data models that support operational analytical and reporting needs that are primarily sourced from our business systems and internal application platforms.
  • Apply software engineering practices to provide clean data sets from the data warehouse to end-users.
  • Work primarily with SQL and Python to automate and optimise data loading and transformation systems.
  • Maintain, operate, and tune data infrastructure (Fivetran, Snowflake, Redshift, dbt, Looker, Mode Analytics, Census) at scale.
  • Develop infrastructure, tools and scalable data ingestion, access and modelling frameworks to support Canva internal user’s user case of data warehouse.
  • Apply data management and governance practices to develop, customize and maintain the data quality execution. Ensure that data is secure and exposed appropriately to respective groups of users.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience in designing and developing end-to-end cloud data warehouse solutions for internal-facing business domains, eg Finance, People, Sales, and Marketing.
  • Advanced dimensional data modelling skills specialising in sourcing data from cloud-based ERP, HCM and CRM platforms.
  • Familiarity with a wide set of data warehousing principles, including architecture, methodologies, schemas, performance/optimisation principles, and best practices.
  • Good Data Governance and Data Management knowledge, track record in applying standardisations and implementing technical controls on data pipelines.
  • Experience developing dashboards and reporting systems using BI solutions.
  • Experience on cloud-based technologies Snowflake, Dbt, Fivetran or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with API tools and Automation platforms.
  • Hands-on experience in using CI/CD tools, and PR processes (Github, Jira, Juniper etc.).
  • Curiosity and self-drive to continuously learn new techniques and tools to extract value from data.
  • Good written, verbal communication and collaborative skills, ability to design and build using high-level requirements.
  • Experience owning, tracking, and delivering goals, working both independently and in teams.
