Description

We are seeking an outstanding Optical Research Scientist to take part in advancing state-of-the-art imaging systems. This scientist will be responsible for researching, designing, prototyping and characterizing novel optical instruments, and applying these to ground-breaking analysis of tissue specimens. Successful candidates will demonstrate proactivity, creativity and an eagerness to push the boundaries in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. Together with an interdisciplinary team of scientists, hardware and software engineers, medical professionals, business and strategy experts and regulatory specialists, this role will help develop technology to unlock new insights from tissue, revolutionizing understanding and treatment of diseases like cancer.

We partner with leading life science, medical devices and government and academic organizations to enable fast development, meaningful advances, and deployment at scale. Our work spans many projects, including Immune Profiler, our deep immune molecular mapping platform; Virtual Stainer, our hyperspectral microscopy and unstained tissue predictive algorithms platform.

Responsibilities

  • Innovate state-of-the art optical imaging and spectroscopy systems.
  • Integrate optical sensing technology into high-throughput, industrial-scale analysis platforms.
  • Design and conduct experiments to characterize complex features of tissue.
  • Evaluate and recommend emerging technology in relevant fields.
  • Contribute to the generation of intellectual property and peer-reviewed publications.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • PhD degree in Optics, Physics, Electrical Engineering or related technical field, or MS with 2+ years of post-graduate work, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience designing, building and characterizing optical systems.
  • Experience with lens design/ray tracing tools, laboratory instrumentation and automation.
  • Expertise with image processing and analysis in Python, C++ or similar languages.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • PhD with 4+ years of industry experience developing commercial scientific instrumentation.
  • Success designing and launching advanced microscopy systems for use in regulated environments.
  • Development or use of optical technology for applications in biological or chemical analysis.
