Our mission is to bring cheaper, green power to customers and shake up the market in France
We’re a leading energy technology company, resulting from the acquisition of the French supplier Plüm énergie, soon to become Octopus Energy France. We're providing a better experience for our customers through transparency, honesty and simplicity. We want to do better for the planet, through real long-term investment in renewable generation and a low CO2 future and better for our customer’s wallets with fair and affordable plans. We're revolutionizing what's possible in energy, through our proprietary platform and custom-built stack, cloud-based billing and sophisticated use of data science. We are relentlessly focused on customer satisfaction and cherish the reward of receiving tremendous reviews from our customers- we have the highest score among French energy providers on Google Reviews (4.8/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️).
We’re looking for a business minded Senior Data Analyst to join our Octopus Energy France team. With a technical skill set and hands on experience, you're ready for a new challenge. This is a great opportunity to help solve a diverse range of data and business challenges including market intelligence, financial analysis, sales modelling and operational efficiency. You’ll be working on analysis to deliver insights and recommendations from the models you build.
You’ll be in charge of the data analysis part inside the French data team, but also you will work as part of the wider data community at the group level and will be able to leverage the data platform and tools used across the other business units. This is your chance to make a big impact on a rapidly growing part of the Octopus Energy Group.

We run a modern cloud data platform made up of the below components:

  • AWS cloud infrastructure
  • Databricks Delta Lake for data lake and warehouse storage and querying
  • dbt for data modelling and transformations
  • Spark for large data processing
  • Python data ecosystem as main scripting and analytics language
  • Jupyter and Jupyter Hub for notebook analytics and collaboration
  • Airflow for task scheduling
  • Kubernetes for data services and task orchestration
  • Github, Circle CI, Grafana and Prometheus for version control, deployment and monitoring
  • Metabase and Streamlit as data front ends.

What you'll do

  • Building and maintaining the dbt codebase to manage data transformations
  • Build BI dashboards and data apps to view and analyse data
  • Working with the business teams to develop different models or analysis
  • It is anticipated that this role will develop to have line management opportunities, to be defined

It would be great if you had the following

  • Knowledgeable in data science (SQL, Python, pandas/numpy, Databricks/Jupyter  Notebooks etc), ideally with experience of production environments and working with large data datasets.
  • Experience in building, deploying and testing BI dashboards
  • Experience in working on collaborative projects with business teams, including technical project management and working with an agile - or similar - approach.
  • Direct experience working in or with the energy industry and a good working knowledge of the power system, its governance, markets and regulation.

You have to

  • Be comfortable working with some ambiguity; Octopus France is a startup organisation and specific roles, responsibilities and projects will evolve as the organisation moves through the scale up phase
  • Curious and self driven - it’s essential you have the initiative to make decisions yourself, and can find solutions to novel problems without lots of help and support
  • Highly data literate and numerate -  can make sense of lots of data and shape it into a coherent story
  • A problem solver - you’ll need to be able to listen and understand the problems and requirements of the business and come up with pragmatic data solutions
  • Have a strong affinity with Octopus Energy Group mission.

Why else you'll love it here

  • Wondering what the salary for this role is? Just ask us! On a call with one of our recruiters it's something we always cover as we genuinely want to match your experience with the correct salary. The reason why we don't advertise is because we honestly have a degree of flexibility and would never want salary to be a reason why someone doesn't apply to Octopus - what's more important to us is finding the right octofit!
  • Octopus Energy is a unique culture we won best company to work for in 2022, on Glassdoor we we're voted 50 best places to work in 2022 and our Group CEO, Greg has recorded a podcast about our culture and how we empower our people - this is the same here in France
  • We are an organisation where people learn, decide, and build quicker. Where people work with autonomy, alongside a wide range of amazing co-owners, on projects that break new ground. Equity option scheme, flexible working, excellent health insurance, soft mobility pack... we want your hard work to be rewarded with perks you actually care about!

We’re looking for someone who thrives on solving tough problems. Someone who can challenge those around them, and be challenged, while delivering delightful experiences for our internal and external customers. If this is all exciting to you, apply now.
