We are looking for a seasoned Director of Data Engineering, who lives and breathes tackling data challenges to join our growing team. This is a challenging, impactful, and highly collaborative position. Reporting to the Sr. Director of Data Engineering, Machine Learning, and Bioinformatics, you will be responsible for spearheading our Data ingestion and modeling initiatives, working across a wide variety of biomedical data, and helping the team to extract scientific insights.
You will help the teams to translate the platform vision and define the direction to build, validate, productionize, and maintain BenchSci’s Data Pipeline. You will play a highly collaborative role to bring together the various projects data is involved in, including working BenchSci’s Machine Learning teams, Bioinformatics team, R&D team, and our teams of scientists.  

You will:

  • Develop strategy and contribute to the roadmap for our Data teams that ladder up to the wider company strategy
  • Collaborate with Product, Machine Learning, Project, and Software teams to establish actionable strategies related to the implementation of our data capture, ingestion, and modeling for delivery in a knowledge graph
  • Partner with key stakeholders across the Platform Stream including the Chief Science Officer, Chief Data Officer, and other representatives from science, bioinformatics, data engineering, as well as product management to plan, prioritize, and execute on updating and launching data initiatives in a cycle of rapid MVP testing followed by productionization following successful assessment
  • Lead & Grow the Data Engineering team: Grow BenchSci’s Data Engineering team, set priorities, timelines, and performance metrics as the organization scales and the number of engineers and engineering managers continues to grow
  • Provide Technical Leadership: be able to speak the language of engineering, have the ability to dive into a problem, and help the Engineering managers reach decisions with the data available
  • People first leadership: you will be directly responsible for the leadership of your engineering managers and will help them to grow and be successful in their role of managing the data teams. You will have an ability to empathize, lead with a people-first mindset, and be genuinely committed to providing thoughtful and intentional mentorship
  • Continuous monitoring and improvement of data pipeline performance

You have:

  • A proven track record of 5+ years in leading engineering teams to deliver exceptional user and business value
  • Demonstrated ability in developing, deploying, and maintaining data-focused projects and products
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent
