Senior NLP Scientist

The Senior NLP Scientist provides advanced natural language processing expertise to the Clinical Data Science team in support of digital biomarker and predictive model research on the AiCure platform. This individual will work closely with the broader AiCure team to apply natural language processing methods to patient speech recordings to develop, validate, and operationalize novel digital biomarkers for the assessment of CNS disease state, progression, characterization, and treatment response. They will be responsible for the execution of related NLP data analysis activities aligned to digital biomarker and patient behavior predictive modeling including exploratory data analysis, statistical analysis, inference model development, data visualizations, and data quality assessment. 

1. Essential Functions/Responsibilities: 

• Develop innovative NLP methods and models to extract digital biomarkers (discreate features associated with health status) from patient speech recordings collected on AiCure’s mobile platform or other client data sources 
• Provide thought leadership on novel uses of NLP methods and natural language models in the diagnosis, characterization, and treatment management of CNS diseases 
• Make substantial contributions to the experimental design and scope of research projects including data requirements, method selection, analysis, and validation approaches
• Independently execute experimental plans; interpret and communicate results to department leadership 
• Develop data quality metrics; develop and execute data quality assessments relative to NLP model performance and related digital biomarker validity 
• Build and maintain toolkits or infrastructure to accelerate NLP/ML innovation
• Follow cutting-edge research in the field of natural language processing and machine learning
• Develop and document high-quality code implementing validated NLP derived digital biomarkers as application programming interfaces in collaboration with AiCure Engineering 
• Interface closely with the Engineering and Product teams to translate validated models into AiCure’s product offerings
• Mentor junior staff and student interns
• Present and interpret results to a wide array of clinical, technical and lay audiences 
• Participate in manuscript writing for results publication, author abstracts, and present at professional conferences. 

Job Description: 

1. Required Education & Training: 

• Masters (Phd preferred) in computer science, data science, machine learning or statistics with an NLP concentration 
• Expert knowledge of NLP and natural language modelling methods 
• Knowledge and experience with machine learning model development and validation ● 3+ years of programming experience in either applied educational or professional projects with commonly used language such as Python, Java, C++, Scala 
• 3+ years of experience in either applied educational or professional projects with widely used statistical analysis and machine learning libraries such as ScikitLearn, R 
• 3+ years of experience in either applied educational or professional projects with widely used NLP libraries such as Gensim, SpaCy, NLTK Toolkit 
• 1+ years of experience in either applied educational or professional projects with widely used deep learning libraries such as PyTorch, TensorFlow 
• 3+ years of experience with progressively more complex NLP projects 
• 1+ years working with clinical or other healthcare text data 
• Familiarity with cloud computing environment such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) or Google Cloud Platform (GCP) 
• Strong verbal and written communications skills with the demonstrated ability to explain complex technical concepts to a lay audience. 
• Demonstrated educational or professional scientific and technical writing experience
