The team

Our Data team gathers insights from oodles of data using their innate curiosity and technical prowess—informing future products and helping our customers. You’ll work with a variety of teams across the company to provide counsel and recommendations on how to best drive forward global initiatives.

What you will achieve

In your first 30 days: 

• Understand the data landscape at Dialpad.
• Partner primarily with Product, Engineering and Business Technology teams to define data engineering requirements. Support other business areas as needed.
• Build your first Pull Request and have it deployed to production.
• Learn about the technology that powers Dialpad.
• Have a good understanding of Dialpad’s business.

In your first 60 days: 

• Design data schemas and structure for datasets.  Validate and reconcile data from multiple sources to build complete datasets to be consumed by applications or used for analysis.
• Become a valued, proactive thought partner that articulates opportunity areas and next steps in partnership with the business partners you support.
• Create and maintain data pipelines that power up business and analytics processes that enable stakeholders to make data-driven decisions across the organization. 
• Communicate analysis and decisions to high-level stakeholders and executives in verbal, visual, and written media.

By 90 days: 

• Be well versed in Dialpad’s core data sets.
• Understand the business, key drivers, and be able to articulate a data engineering strategy to help the business do better.
• Have a vision for how to evolve data engineering practices.
• Deliver value in a regular cadence.
• Get comfortable in your daily work within your team.

Who you are

- You love data and you love answering the hard questions that cannot be solved in a spreadsheet.  While others may wait for problems to be solved...you are the one that solves them

- Hard skills (they will be tested):

• You have experience working with Python and Pandas.
• You use SQL on a daily basis at your current job and are able to write highly optimized queries.
• You have experience using version control systems (e.g Git)
• You understand data warehouse design, development, and best practices
• You are familiar with distributed computing and data modeling.
• Working experience with Airflow is a big plus.
• Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform (e.g. GCS and BigQuery) is a plus.
• Working experience with Dimensional Modeling is a plus.

- You believe that data accuracy is absolutely critical

- You have extremely strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to build strong relationships and influence stakeholders

- You are experienced leading cross-functional projects that depend on the contributions of others in a variety of disciplines

- BA/BS in a technical field or equivalent work experience

- Fluency in English is required
