The team builds and operates industry-leading analytics products that utilize Artificial Intelligence (AI), machine learning and cutting-edge Natural Language Processing (NLP) to provide deep insights for our customers. In order to keep up with the rapidly evolving field of Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Machine Learning (ML), certain time is allotted for research. This allows us to lead the trend of automating the contract analysis processes by testing and evaluating the latest ML technology and methods in an inhouse designed lab. As such, we hire people who are excited about working on a ground-breaking and technically challenging AI vision that will be one of DocuSign’s key investments over the next few years.

This position
This Engineering Manager will work tightly with our teams and product management focusing on Machine Learning and AI solutions for multiple languages, meaning it is a key to have previous experience from Machine Learning engineering work and teams. You will coordinate with the other Engineering Managers and the teams you are working with in the activities of getting employees engaged in development of product stack and work with various key stakeholders of software development and machine learning, for assembling product road maps to support the company vision.

The Engineering manager will be acting as a people manager, hiring manager and delivery manager related to the teams you will be in closest cooperation with. You will also coordinate and work with other departments within or outside their organization to ensure project completion and the use of best practices. Overall, the engineering manager must troubleshoot roadblocks throughout projects and solve problems that hinder project completion, as well as lead the development of new products and services.

This position is a people manager role reporting to the Director of Engineering and is designated Flex (Hybrid).

Responsibilities

• People management involved in mid-year reviews, salary reviews and day to day connections.
• Hiring management for the area you are responsible for.
• Monitors adherence to Product Development Process and software lifecycles.
• Plans, assigns, and monitors project manpower commitments and recruits, outsources needs to best fit program requirements.
• Accountable for maintaining departmental Engineering standards.
• Provides input to Division Executive on strategic direction for Engineering design and development.
• Coordinates development activity between the multiple Engineering groups.
• Interfaces with Product Division management, Business owners & Product owners to assure
• Department's product development activities meet or exceed product team's expectations.
• Carries out responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies, including interviewing, hiring, training employees, planning, directing work and appraising performance (coordination with the team leads in some of these tasks)
• Assures efficient and economical utilization of resources, improvement of methods, and elimination of wasteful practices within the department; may include budget development and control.
• Develops workforce planning and utilization programs to satisfy actual and projected requirements.
• Includes the scheduling of overtime and cost/effective use of temporary services, whenever needed.

Basic Qualifications

• Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
• Extensive engineering experience, ideally in a management role
• Experience from Machine Learning, text classification, analysis and text categorization
• Analytical and mathematical mind, capable of evaluating and solving various complex problems
• Leadership skills necessary to manage and develop a team
• Organizational competencies and project management skills to keep projects, processes, and the entire engineering team on track
• Self-motivated attitude with the ability to multitask and thrive in a timeline-driven environment
• Interpersonal communication skills with expertise in distilling complicated topics to a broader audience
• Ability to work individually or as part of a team

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in engineering management or business administration preferred
• Engineering management experience in an ML/AI capacity
• Demonstrated experience developing and shipping ML solutions
