The Product Research team within Bitsight’s Security Research department focuses on technology and methodology development for risk signal collection, processing, and analysis.  The team is part of Bitsight’s broader product development organization and is involved with investigating and prototyping new potential product capabilities.  This researcher will be tasked with building datasets and conducting experiments to assess the feasibility of making inferences about the characteristics of organizations based on network telemetry attributable to those organizations.  This role will be ideally suited to a researcher who can apply a solid foundation of computer networking and security concepts, as well as business considerations, to design experiments on Bitsight’s massive holdings of networking and security telemetry data.  The position will contribute subject matter expertise of the data domain to work alongside our Data Science team to build new metrics and models for a variety of new use cases in collaboration with internal and external partners.

Objectives & Responsibilities

  • Design and research methods for new data collection or new applications of data to introduce new product features or serve as enhancements to existing features.

  • Decompose abstract research questions into testable hypotheses and technical research plans

  • Perform data analysis on internally and externally derived datasets to conduct feasibility studies on inference techniques for computer security and network properties.

  • Clearly articulate research findings to business stakeholders and provide quantitative recommendations on business processes, priorities, and investments

  • Ideate product features and enhancements based on the latest security trends and capabilities

  • Collaborate with product and engineering groups to develop new data processing specifications

  • Collaborate with the Data Partnerships team to maintain partner relationships, serving as a technical liaison for external partners

  • Conduct research, writing, and presentations in support of marketing activities and customer engagements to promote key findings and capabilities and explain data and ratings concepts.

Qualifications

  • Strong technical background with expertise in networking and information security

  • Proven track record in security data analysis and presentation

  • Familiarity with contemporary security and business trends, such as zero trust architecture, cloud computing, and basics of genAI 

  • Ability to conduct statistical experiments and develop rapid prototypes

  • Strong communication and analytical skills, including the ability to identify and solve ambiguous problems

  • Proficient in standard scripting languages

  • Strong sense of self-direction and initiative

This position may be considered a promotional opportunity pursuant to the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act.

The anticipated hiring base salary range for this position is US$125,000 to $140,000 annually for US-based employees.  This range reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations, is based on a full-time work schedule, and is Bitsight’s good faith estimate as of the date of this posting.  Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for participation in a bonus or commission plan and an equity grant.  Bitsight also offers a competitive benefits package, including but not but limited to medical, dental, and vision insurance; paid parental leave; flexible time off; a 401(k) plan with employee and company contribution opportunities; life and disability insurance; and tuition reimbursement.
