About Pacmed

Pacmed strives to make healthcare a continuous learning network. All patients should receive care adjusted to their personal needs and all caretakers should learn from all decisions made within healthcare. Pacmed aims to achieve this by building and implementing decision support software based on machine learning. Our software supports intensive care doctors in their most important decisions, starting with safely and adequately discharging patients from the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). You will join at a point in time where Pacmed has implemented its first software in the ICU and is preparing to scale that software across the Netherlands and Europe.

About the Role

As a Junior Data Engineer at Pacmed you will work together with Experienced Data Engineers, Data Scientists, and other developers in your team to make sure that Pacmed’s data pipelines efficiently process vast amounts of data. Data Engineers use technology like Python, SQL, and Spark to process raw data to a data warehouse filled with features. You'll use and potentially further develop the Azure cloud infrastructure built by Cloud Engineers. You'll enable the Data Scientists to develop Machine Learning models and productionise those models in Pacmed’s Cloud-hosted software product (Pacmed Critical) to be used at the bedside by physicians on a daily basis.

Pacmed also is a trusted partner for the academic world. As such we’re the technical partner for a nation-wide initiative that aims to unlock the historical data of all ICU in the Netherlands, to be used by scientists. The goal of this initiative is to improve the quality of ICU care in general. As a Data Engineer, you will play an important role in the efficient processing of these large amounts of data. Our stack currently consists of: Python, SQL, Parquet, PostgreSQL, Redis, REST, Ansible, Terraform, Docker, Spark, Microsoft Azure. We’re always eager to add beneficial new technologies to our stack.

What will you do on a daily basis?

  • Develop yourself towards an allround Data Engineer, being coached by more senior team members

  • Collaborate with Data Scientists and developers to evaluate and identify optimal pipeline solutions.

  • Build and maintain the data pipelines that process large amounts of data. Contribute to the processing code of the Data Scientists.

  • Evaluate and improve existing pipelines.

  • Work with Data Scientists to educate them on how to optimally write data processing code, and make sure that Machine Learning models can be seamlessly integrated in the software product.

  • Optimize the use of data storage engines (S3, Parquet, SQL).

  • Ensure quality of the data processing steps by implementing quality checks at important places in the processing pipelines.
