The Role

As an Intern in AI Research, you will research and develop new machine learning methods that impact crucial parts of our AI driven drug discovery platform in the domains of activity prediction, experiment automation or cell image analysis. You will work as part of an interdisciplinary team of researchers and develop new models that directly contribute to how we analyse and design drug candidates. A personal mentor will support you during the project and regularly check in with you to help you with their scientific expertise and guidance. You will have the opportunity to acquire valuable skills around working on AI and Machine learning in drug discovery.

We’re seeking several interns to join us, ideally for three months in 2022. You will contribute to our mission to develop better medicines, faster, to people around the world.

As an Intern in AI Research you will have the opportunity to:

• Contribute to cutting-edge research by designing and evaluating new machine learning prototypes, ultimately impacting decision making on real drug discovery projects.
• Work with industry leaders in an interdisciplinary and scientific environment.
• Get first-hand industry experience on how research and software development is conducted in a biotech/pharma company.
• Develop your programming skills in Python and PyTorch.
• Develop your skills in a cutting edge area of machine learning for drug discovery
• Perform novel research that potentially leads to publication

Requirements

• You are an MSc or PhD student in a quantitative field, with a strong interest in Machine Learning and passionate about its application in the field of drug discovery
• You are eager to implement robust Machine Learning workflows and able to rigorously assess model performance
• You have experience in reading and understanding scientific papers, and are keen to develop novel machine learning prototypes
• You have experience in presenting scientific results in a clear and understandable way
• You can work independently, but are not afraid to ask for help when stuck either.
• You are available for a period of 3 months this year (September to December at the latest).

Desirable Skills:

• Experience with a deep learning framework such as PyTorch or Tensorflow.
• Experience in the fields of medical computer vision, signal processing, machine learning for chemistry, anomaly detection or meta-learning.
• Experience in publishing scientific results in journals or conferences
