Gridware
Gridware provides utilities with the monitoring technology needed to modernize a safe, resilient, reliable and efficient electric grid.Gridware is on a mission to create a future without deadly wildfires. We’re a startup building hardware and software that monitors the power grid to prevent and detect faults that lead to wildfire ignition. (More about Gridware below).
To make that happen, we’re currently looking for a mechanical research engineer to join our growing team.
Why do we need you?
We’re manufacturing and deploying our first fleet of critical infrastructure monitoring devices to detect real world fault events that lead to wildfires. As an early team member you will have the opportunity to set the foundation for at-edge systems for protecting the power grid and preventing the next big blaze. The research you do and prototypes that you build will change the capabilities of our system which will, in turn, influence how the grid is designed, operated, and upgraded. You’ll work side-by-side with a highly driven team of mechanical/electrical/software engineers, researchers, and data scientists that have built technologies from satellites and 3D printers to secure OS's and industrial-scale logistics software.
Responsibilities
This is what you’ll be doing:
- Build and/or procure prototype measurement equipment capable of detecting nuanced physical characteristics within a complex system
- Develop theories and models for physical/mechanical behaviors within a wide variety of real-world events
- Design, and execute pointed experiments in a full-scale test environment to demonstrate proof-of-concept detection methods
- Collaborate within larger organization to create short- and long-term development plans to efficiently evaluate a plethora of research concepts
- Identify and develop new detection methods to expand product capabilities and work with other organizations to implement solutions into new product revisions
Application
Although we do not require candidates to submit a cover letter, candidates who wish to have their application stand out are invited to write a cover letter outlining one or all of the following things in a bullet-point format:
- Where you have acquired the required skills
- Which (if any) of the bonus skills you have and where you acquired them
- Why you are interested in this role
Benefits
We offer competitive benefits that help employees to thrive and grow. These benefits include:
- An attractive salary with bonus plan
- Health insurance
- Flexible working hours
- Stock option plan

Our Vision
Save Lives Everyday, Everywhere
Our Mission
Prevent catastrophic failures by building a highly adaptable platform capable of answering any question about critical infrastructure.
What we do
We provide a full-stack (hardware + firmware + software) solution for real-time monitoring of America's power distribution grid. Our low-cost hardware platforms are deployed to power poles, where they
- detect and predict faults that lead to wildfire ignition or outages
- expedite repairs during power outages
Gridware’s technology is designed to unlock essential values for other adjacent verticals. Our unique positioning allows us to solve some of the world’s most burning challenges - from helping policy makers make data-driven infrastructure decisions to helping farmers overcome micro-climate challenges. While others turn a blind eye to these aged and highly-regulated industries, we at Gridware believe it’s our duty to find win-for-all scenarios that lead to a prosperous future for coming generations.
