Description

The candidate would be part of the larger Data Science efforts at Verily. The team combines expertise in data science, data engineering, machine learning, life sciences and healthcare to improve the health and well-being of our communities. We are developing the infrastructure and algorithms to harness the profusion of health information for good. Our data-driven solutions span three primary areas: research, care, and innovation. Programs include Project Baseline, our research initiative to increase participation and evidence generation in clinical research; Onduo, our personalized virtual care platform, which includes connected tools, lifestyle coaching and clinical support; Virtual Stainer and Immune Profiler, our life science approaches for identification of novel molecular biomarkers; and Study Watch, our clinical tool for identifying digital biomarkers. 
 
Working with major hospitals and pharmaceutical companies, our main goal is to deliver digital diagnostic and treatment recommendation products that will enter clinical practice within a few years. Verily is recruiting an experienced, passionate and inter-disciplinary data scientist. In this role, you will work on solving complex problems across multiple data science teams. You will use your data science and data engineering skills, knowledge of multiple life science and healthcare domains, communication and mentorship skills to enable the teams around you as we bring innovative healthcare solutions to the market. 

Responsibilities

  • Work across data science teams to optimize our infrastructure, and then use it to develop and deploy new algorithms.
  • Look for innovative ways to integrate and build value from our large multimodal datasets.
  • Interact cross-functionally with a wide variety of teams, such as hardware, science, clinical and regulatory teams.
  • Help define and improve best data science practices throughout multiple developmental cycle stages.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • PhD degree in a quantitative field (e.g., Computer Science, Statistics, Bioinformatics, Machine Learning) or equivalent practical experience.
  • 10 years of experience in data analysis or related field as a statistician, data scientist, computational biologist or bioinformatician; and at least 5 years of experience with programming (Python, R, and/or C++).
  • Excellent track record in at least three of the following disciplines: computational biology, medical imaging, natural language processing, deep learning, device/sensor data analysis and developing algorithms for use in embedded systems.
  • Team player: someone who works well with others and actively contributes to the team workflows.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in both research and launching clinical products.
  • Ability to initiate and drive multiple successful initiatives inside and across the organization.
  • Demonstrated leadership and self-direction. Demonstrated willingness to teach others and learn new techniques.
